Granted it might not be the right time (or director) for a sequel, but it would be nice for the trilogy to play itself out…

Hey Pedro, you’re not alone. I hated Unbreakable too, specially because of the negative view of comic book readers along the movie. But probably I would’ve hated it for its boring and dragged pacing even if I wasn’t a comics reader.

Unbreakable was probably M’s best movie, but that’s faint praise to say the least. I guess I just found it really predictable. Stylish, but predictable all the way through. Decent enough movie, as opposed to all that other dreck he’s made, but is there honestly a need for a sequel? I gotta say “no.” Ejulp has it right: “What rest of the story”?

Then again, an Unbreakable sequel might spare us from the ill-advised live take on Avatar: The Last Airbender. Wonderful TV show that really doesn’t need a big screen treatment. Or, more accurately, could be great on the big screen but only if it’s an animated continuation of the TV series, and all the same talent from the TV show is involved with the project. I don’t see how (or why) three seasons of the show will be condensed down to three movies. Like the Harry Potter films, I imagine the Airbender movies will barely scratch the surface of the original material.

Anyhow, while Unbreakable was moderately succesful I doubt there’s enough interest out there, in either the movie or M himself, to get Unbreakable 2 made.

Am I the only comics reader who hated Unbreakable for the neo-Werthanian drek it was?

The two comic fans in the movie? A psycho mass murderer and an unstable kid who almost capped his own dad. Nice.

After “The Happening” Shyamalan is on my list of directors I avoid like the plauge. The man can’t direct character to save his life. The only film of his I liked was “Sixth Sense” and the trailer blew the ending of that for me. I sat down knowing he was dead so essentually I watched a different film than everyone else. I was watching a dead guy trying to interact with the living.

Well, ANYTHING would be better than Signs, The Village, Lady In the Water and that god awful The Happening.

So yeah, he should have already made Unbreakable 2 and spared all of us the crap he’s been spewing up on the screen the last few years.

I loved Unbreakable. I think it should get as much credit as Blade or X-Men as making comic-based movies both viable and popular. It’s been too long since the movie, and there’s too much bad karma/buzz around Night for this movie to get made (and made “right”). Night has simply lost too much of his “cred” to make any movie, let alone a sequel to one of his movies that wasn’t well received by the box office.

Unbreakable was a fine film that just friggin’ stopped. The fight between our hero and Mr. Glass should have been act three, and that’s all there is to it.

Already America was hooked on his “twist ending” bit, so he felt he had to give one. Is was a good twist, but it should not have been the ending.

Glass went from being a tragic figure to a nut, and played right, he could have become a tragic figure again.

Reportedly, MNS had envisioned a trilogy, the second of which would follow what happens next to the protagonist in a world where he can’t exactly put on tights and fight crime but knows that his obligations go beyond his family and Mister Glass, and the third telling us more about the baby that survived one of the other attacks engineered by Mister Glass (a baby who would of course be like Willis’ character).

Yes! Especially given the abrupt ending of the story, it’s clear that more was intended.

I wasn’t a big fan of his other movies, but this one really captured the superhero thing effectively.

I loved this film, as did my wife. It’s a shame that it was not as well received as it could have been.

Alas, after a string of high priced failures, MNS might be out of juice and I don’t really feel good about seeing him even on this project.

He should have made it years ago, probably sparing us the Village and all that came after. Part of me always wished for this sequel while I also dreaded it, fearing that it might be a hokey standard superhero movie. M Night never does anything standard though.

I agree! I think comic fans may be the only folks who like Unbreakable, though. For it to be a financial hit, it’s got to look pretty spectacular to bring in all the non-comic fans who hated the flick because it wasn’t The Sixth Sense 2. Still, it’s my favorite Shyamalan film (not a hard feat though, considering his output since that one).
