Sorry Clark, but we need a break

Smallville

Charlie Jane Anders points to a quote from Operation Save Clark Kent, a Smallville fansite, that really sums up what needs to be done with the show. In reference to a break the show is taking in its production after the 10th episode:

The break means that the network can decide if they want more Smallville and if they do- the writers can adjust their back half of the season for this instead of having to randomly end things leaving no one satisfied if they don’t get their expected pick up. I personally am hoping this is the last season. Episode 9 will be a clip episode- and when series start running those it is a sign that they are on their last legs creatively and it is time for the show to end.

So seriously, CW, when a fan site called Operation Save Clark Kent is ready for the show to end, it’s time to end the misery.

    Feel like I’ve been saying this for a couple of years. the show should have ended after he left high school.

    If they are going to keep it going, they really kind of need to change the title to “Metropolis”, don’t they?

    I speak from complete ignorance, as I have never watched the show, so feel free to dogpile on me if I’m being a total uninformed tool and missing some important aspect that dictates why he’s still in Smallville after 9 years and not wearing a blue, red and yellow suit by now.

    @Sluggo:
    No you’re right. This fucks regular DC continuity in the ass, but if Geoff writing ‘Smallville’ brings new readers in, then that would be awesome.

    I’ve only watched 3 episodes of the show, but seriously — what does it matter if it contradicts the comic book continuity? It’s a different version of the character, and a different version of the universe.

    (P.S. Your anti-spam plugin is again telling me I need to enable JavaScript and cookies even though they’re both enabled, when the real reason is that I opened this page in a tab, looked at something else, then came back here and read it. Aside from the fact that it’s a poor indicator of spam, you’d think the plugin could provide a valid error message instead of a bogus one.)

    No way, I love the show… Save Smallville!

    Hey- thanks for reading the OSCK blog- we have been debating this topic on our site too. My personal issue is that the new showrunners have some major making up to do for the fans after the crapfest that was the back half of season 6 and the first half of season 7. Things look good so far- having Millar and Gough gone making more meaningless sequels is a good thing. Johns coming in has everyone excited- the key will be to maintain momentum over the course of the season. If the writers fall back on the same bad habits of years past though- it will time to declare this chapter closed.
    Just opinion :) Loving the new mythos storylines and cannot wait to see how things play out with Jr Doomsday
