Does this mean that the black “X”s on the breasts of Joker’s henchwoman were actually censoring bars? I knew this going to happen. Between completely oversexing the series, I felt that what happened to Hal Jordan in #9 just might’ve been the most graphic thing I’ve ever seen in superhero books. He tells a good story but it begs the question is Frank Miller twisted or just his writing?

I don’t understand why there even has to be swearing in comics that aren’t labeled for mature readers. Only idiots who have no imagination and a basic understanding of the English language resort to such language. If it is a book that features people who are stupid and can only think of such language in trying to get a point across, then make it a mature book, like the Vertigo line. My LCS smartly keeps all the Vertigo and other mature titles behind the counter away from the young readers.

I think Miller may be intentionally parodying the use of such techniques. It goes with the whole over-the-top comics-aspects-to-their-extreme nature of this series. (People seem to be acting as if their insulting this series by saying it makes them laugh; I think they’re missing that this is a satiric series of excess by the same guy who did Hard Boiled, Robocop, and Dark Knight Strikes Again.)

All I’m saying is that the CBLDF doesn’t like censorship and support’s the artist’s creative freedom; and I don’t like censorship and I don’t want my artists pulling any punches. I don’t care whether it’s from outside by the government, or internally by the publisher. Even if it doesn’t annoy CBLDF, it annoys ME.
I mean, come on, we can all use our imagination to fill in the black bars anyway. What’s the point?

I’m seriously considering getting this issue… its not the whole series anyways and lee’s work is great but seeing words like “I’m the Goddamn Batman” to “I’m Fu*king Batgirl” brings lols and reasons why this is better than Hulk XD [well... maybe for now if Rulk can do more than defeat Thor]

People should do themselves a favor and learn what the word “censorship” means in the context of a discussion about rights. Although there are different kinds of censorship, CBLDF and other anti-censorship organizations have a very specific definition.

Censorship is NOT when a publisher alters the content of a work it owns. Censorship is NOT when Party A sues Party B because Party B printed something that makes Party A look bad (Hi, Ellison V. Fantagraphics!) Censorship is NOT when your mom makes you throw away a bitchin’ Slayer t-shirt because it’s got nasty stuff on it. Censorship is NOT when the admin of an internet forum bans you for fighting a lot.

Those things are all the acts of an independent party exercising legal or personal action on their own volition. Censorship IS when the government or some political body who actually has power over the courts prevents you from speaking freely. If Frank Miller went to jail or got fined because of this incident, it would be censorship. But DC (the company that owns this comic… Frank’s bosses) are choosing to limit what’s being said for their own sake.

Personally, I think this should be settled Michael Scott style. Call a press conference (that will only be attended by one member of the local media, of course) to announce an apology and present the victims with a giant novelty check plus free SWAG and/or partial discounts. If people still aren’t satisfied, Frank Miller himself would then call the Ungrateful Be-yotch Hotline.

At least this didn’t involve a watermark of a cartoon duck performing unspeakable acts on a beloved cartoon mouse.

Jesus tapdancin Christ, are people THAT puritanical about language? Is this book REALLY for children anyway? What a joke. There is swearing sometimes, esp. in Miller comics, and droping an F-bomb really isn’t as wrong as you would think.
