Is this the look of the Green Lantern movie?

Green Lantern concept art, by Brian Murray

Cinematical has a gallery of concept art created by illustrator Brian Murray for Green Lantern co-screenwriter, and apparent director, Greg Berlanti.

The illustrations, which depict a Green Lantern whose costume is somewhere between Hal Jordan’s and Kyle Rayner’s, apparently were used to pitch Berlanti’s take on the movie to Warner Bros.

When last we checked in on the promised Green Lantern movie, we learned that it will focus on the origin of Hal Jordan, and feature “all the heroics and action inherent with that character.”

Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green also are working on the script.

Ya know what I like about the way Iron Man looks in that Iron Man movie? He looks like Iron Man. That GL drawing looks like some 90’s Top Cow book.

I like it; it’s 50’s stylish, which is appropriate for the Hal Jordan desert Air Force Base theme. Unfortunately, let’s hope that doesn’t depict his ring recipient scene, as it’s more reminiscent of Kyle Rayner “I’m walking out of a bar and my friend is throwing up over there” scene.

Not liking the “Kyle” look of this. That doesn’t mean it won’t be a great movie, but why not stick to the basics and make the Hal GL look like the Hal GL we all know and love? It’s not like everything has to be exactly the same as the comics, but I do believe in a “stick to the basics” approach.

Spidey looked like Spidey in those movies. Chris Reeve’s Superman looked like Superman is supposed to, as opposed to the unnecessary changes given to the costume in Superman Returns (though that was the LEAST of that movie’s problems).

Batman’s an interesting case, since I wouldn’t have minded a grey costume with a black cape and cowl in Batman Begins, but I think a black, protective suit makes sense for a street-level character who’s a creature of the night. Regardless, it’s still easily recognized as Batman.

Anyhow, I just think the simplest, classic GL design is the best. No need to overthink it.

The design looks like a cross between Hal, Kyle and modern John to me
