Paramount Pictures has updated the official Star Trek movie website with high-res versions of the new posters released over the weekend at Creation’s Star Trek Las Vegas convention. Like the character posters released last month at Comic-Con, these four images combine to form the familiar “delta emblem” from the original TV series.

These teasers showcase Simon Pegg as Scotty, John Cho as Sulu, Karl Urban as McCoy, and Anton Yelchin as Chekov.

The other three posters can be seen after the break. J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek opens on May 8, 2009.

That’s good sauce right there. Here’s hoping for he best.

  2. Jorell Rivera Says:

I can barely recognize Simon Pegg. Looking good.

  3. Celina Hernandez Says:

Pegg does look good and so does Chen!
    Can’t wait!

  4. Kelson @ Speed Force Says:

I’d find these posters more interesting if I could tell who they were supposed to be.

  5. Shaun Says:

“Chekov” looks more like Dr. Bashir from DS9 to me (Oh how I wish there would be a DS9 movie)… And Karl Urban’s looking like he’s striking a Superman pose. Maybe he wouldn’t make a half-bad Man of Steel. I sure as hell can’t see him as Dr. McCoy, even if he is a lifelong Trek fan.

I’ll hope for the best, but I’m not really expecting it. Is this a reboot or isn’t it? The posters sure are bland, and don’t tell us a thing about the film. Hopefully there’ll be more coming, including a trailer by the holidays.

I know people, including my wife, who plan to see it right away. I’ll wait for their opinions before I see this. If it’s honestly that good, my wife will want to see it a second time anyhow.

Some of the casting… man, I can only shake my head.

  7. Evan Says:

I still can’t tell how that’s Simon Pegg.

    Looks nothing like him.

  8. Paul Moore Says:

I agree with silvanthalas. John Cho’s casting as Sulu is pretty much the only one that seems to have worked…

  9. Zla'od Says:

If this movie does well, then maybe the time has finally come for “Star Trek vs. Star Wars” to be made.

I have trouble seeing Bones as anything but a grumpy old man. Therefore Karl Urban sits poorly with me. As would anyone else, I imagine. But he looks about as old as everyone else, while in TOS he seems a good deal older.

  11. Shaun Says:

Paul, I have no idea if Cho is good casting or not. Have you seen him in other stuff, or did they simply get it right because they cast an Asian man? :-)

So far, the only casting that works for me is Quinto as Spock. And that’s only because he looks a great deal like a young Leonard Nimoy. I actually think he’ll make a good Spock, and I’m glad Nimoy’s going to be in it, but nothing else about this movie has me interested in seeing it.

I’m especially disappointed over the casting of Kirk. Bad enough that Shatner won’t be in it, I still think Chris Pine looks like a mama’s boy who couldn’t possibly stand toe-to-toe with a surly Klingon. If he’s not convincing, the whole movie fails. If the rumors about how exactly Kirk beat the Kobyashi Maru turn out be true, it’ll be proof that Abrams really doesn’t get it.

And Pegg? He’s great, but I’m not seeing him as Scotty.

  12. John Q Says:

I’ll reserve judgment but the idea to recast the original crew with younger actors has been around for a while so they’re not really doing anything fresh as much as recycling, but what else is new in Hollywood.

I have a feeling that Abrams is going to play fast and loose with continuity, maybe even tossing it completely out the airlock. I don’t know if they’ve come out and officially said that this is a complete remake but it sure looks that way and I don’t know if the fanbase will be that open to it. It’d be nice if it did well enough that they do another TV show. I thought they bailed on Enterprise far too soon.

“If this movie does well, then maybe the time has finally come for “Star Trek vs. Star Wars” to be made.”

How about Star Trek vs. Star Wars vs. Battlestar Galactica vs. Lord of the Rings vs Terminator vs Predator vs Incredible Hulk vs Iron Man vs Batman vs Spider-Man vs Robocop vs Titanic vs Halo vs Metal Gear Solid vs Angelina Jolie vs Ghostbusters vs The Matrix vs Jurassic Park vs Godzilla vs King Kong vs Watchmen vs 300 vs Superman?

Not necessarily in that order. And the budget would be about 5 billion dollars.
