Although it’s unlikely to ever happen, I thought Eric Reynolds came up with a really good idea involving Bottomless Belly Button creator Dash Shaw and Dr. Strange:
By the way, Fanta has just gone back to press on BBB, which we’re thrilled about. I was thinking this morning that the two artists we’ve published of late with perhaps the most “heat” at the moment are Dash Shaw and Steve Ditko. Which then reminded me of Dash’s unpublished Dr. Strange strip (see below), and inevitably led me to one conclusion: that really, Marvel Comics should give Dr. Strange to Fantagraphics. Marvel doesn’t know what the fuck to do with him. Give him to us and we’ll start an ongoing Dr. Strange anthology with new work by Los Bros, Dash Shaw, Daniel Clowes, Kim Deitch, and other longtime Ditko fans, and include reprints of the classic Ditko Strange as well. Joe Quesada, it is your moral duty to make this happen.

Over on the Comics Journal message board there used to be an unbelievably pretentious and long-winded thread with some guy’s ideas for a Dr Strange movie…

Marvel has no idea what to do with Dr. Strange? That’s funny, I seem to remember them publishing one of the best Dr. Strange stories ever in just the last year.

Couldn’t this logic be applied to most of Marvel and DC’s characters?

Maybe Fantagraphics could handle the editorial and Marvel could publish it, like how Event used to handle Marvel Knights back in the day.

I remember the preview they did for this Dr. Strange short they did on Newsarama. I thought it was a very cool idea, but I didn’t think it’d last long because indy and mainstream rarely mix well. Guess they didn’t even give it a chance.

Dash Shaw is seriously a goddamn genius, and the fact that Marvel has been sitting on his Dr. Strange story for as long as they have is almost criminal.
Hopefully they will eventually get it together and publish this, unlike Peter Bagge’s Hulk one-shot, which I’ve essentially given up on.

Oh so that’s what happened to that Dr. Strange story. For months now I’ve been thinking I missed it. I hope Marvel publishes it sometimes because it looked fun and I wanted to read it.
