<b>"...the Milestone titles addressed the lack of diversity across DC¹s
superhero line, and especially at the top of the line."</b>

Well...technically, yes. They were titles starring black characters, but at
the same time, they were "segregated" to their own imprint. Yeah, I know
that's a strong word, but it's hard to view a group of black characters
walled off from the mainstream DC universe as anything but. Perhaps someone
realized this at some point back in the 90's when the Milestone and DC
heroes had a big crossover event (remniscient of the old JLA-JSA
crossovers), with the possibility of blending the two pantheons of
characters into a seamless whole. Apparently, behind the scenes issues
nixed the plan (whatever the plan was), and some fifteen years later a
"desegrigation" plan of sorts is put into place.

I'm looking forward to it. Let the characters stand or fall based on their
strength as characters, and not for just their skin color. As it should be
in the NON fictional world as well!

I wouldn't mind a bit more !mpact stuff from the 90's... but you know what? Part of what made it all fun can never truly be repeated. There were some wonderful concepts along the way (Black Hood and The Fly being my favorites, followed closely by The Web and the way they treated old versus new), but part of what made it what it was came from the art. And The Fly without the late, great Mike Parobeck just cannot and will not be the same.

I'm holding out hope that the !mpact versions of the heroes will get there own Earth after this Final Crisis stuff.

I'd especially like to see some more adventures of the !mpact versions of The Fly and The Black Hood. Great characters.

Kevin, if Zatanna had a big bat-scalloped cape, or a "ZZ+BW" tattoo, I'd be more inclined to see her as part of that "family." The current Question has more Bat-credentials than Zatanna does, and I don't consider her part of the Bat-franchise either, for much the same reason.

Zatanna with no overt ties to a male character? Somehow I don't think Dini will be dropping the ill-conceived relationship he established between Batman & Zatanna. Or maybe I should say "between Bruce Wayne & Zatanna".

From his work with the character in Detective, I don't really see myself being interested in Dini's solo series of the character. I'll buy the first issue because it'll likely cost me $.74 through DCBService.com. But I'll hold off on ordering anything further until I've read that.

One of the stumbling blocks to using the !mpact characters is they would require royalty payments to the creators. DC might rather go with new stuff they don't need to split the pie for.

A shame, because I too was a big supporter of the !mpact line. I'll be quite curious to see what they have planned for the characters. I still think it's another iteration of the Twelve/Project Superpowers model. Not that that can't be good, o'course.

DiDio's interviews seem to suggest that none of the Impact material would be used in the new stuff, but if you want a loophole, he might just have been talking about the plots and characters. I also liked that Black Hood design (by Rick Burchett) since, among other things, it actually had a black hood.

I wonder if they'll incorporate any of the designs from the Impact comics run. The Black Hood there, for instance, looks <a href="http://comics.org/covers.lasso?SeriesID=4189" rel="nofollow">very different</a> from the original, and (IMO) much more distinctive.

I'm not all that excited by Neil Gaiman on Batman because I don't think that he's really done anything noteworthy since Sandman. His comics work hasn't been stellar (1602, for example, was kind of boring) and his prose work (American Gods, Anansi Boys) was just competently written magical realism, and really lacked the imagination of his Sandman work.
