Comments on: Is Fox prepping X-Men: First Class?

Marvel frequently plays up the original five X-Men as the focus of a particular issue, a mini-series, or (in this case) an entire title. X-Men: First Class is a nice book. I suspected that Fox would pursue a X-Men in High School project at some point and First Class is a nice reference for the project. But are the original five really the best characters that the franchise has to offer?

I don’t know Fox has in mind but I hope that they don’t feel too beholden to go along with the original five. If the project is set in the movie continuity, it is pretty tempting to focus on the new students and cast it (unofficially) as X-Men4. If the project is independent of all the others, they should pick the characters that best suit the story and rather than commit to the original roster for its own sake.

I see this as Xavier and Magneto starting a school with Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, Beast, Toad & Mystique. Throughout the film Xavier and Magneto’s visions of the future of mutantkind split the school.

I would love to see a movie based on Jeff Parker and Roger Cruz’s comic book series, but I don’t see how that could happen. Like Rich said, it would have to be without Iceman and Angel. Still, a movie with a young Scott, Jean and Hank that has the same tone as the comic? I would very much be on board for that.

Interesting idea. I see a young Scott Summers on the cast list for X-Men Origins: Wolverine over on imdb so I suppose it’s not beyond possibility.

If it was tied to the current movie incarnation (which would make sense), I guess it would be without Iceman and Angel though.
