What would Mark Waid do … or, more accurately, what should Mark Waid do?

At the BOOM! Studios panel on Friday at the San Diego Comic-Con, Waid said he wanted fan input on his next project for BOOM! Should he do superheroes, or something else?

So, what do you want to see from Waid? A western? Horror? Comedy? Something with giant robots fighting dinosaurs Or even original superheroes? Let’s hear your opinion in the comments section.

    Wow…what a fun idea!

I’m throwing my vote in for “not superheroes.” We’re already on pace to get Spider-Man and The Incredibles from Mark next year, which should each be really fun in their own way. Plus, it’s been a while since he’s written anything in the vein of Ruse, which despite having some drama surrounding it was a great read when it came out. I’d love to see him test run a new genre like he did with Potter’s Field. If not another mystery/crime book, maybe a sci fi comic?

    What say y’all?

Waid should write whatever he so pleases. I want to see him tell all the stories that he has in him that he’s not told yet, for whatever reason. I want him to unleash the creative side of him that’s been held back by super-heroes and his stint as EiC. I want Mark Waid–as a creator I respect–to make comics for Mark Waid. That’s what I’d be most interested in, even if it was more super-hero work, so long as it was Mark Waid writing for Mark Waid.

  3. Primate Says:

PIRATES. Is the El Cazador property available for revival?

  4. Ed Says:

Not superheroes, but avoid the specific non-superhero genres that Crossgen tended to do. Especially, no Sword and Sorcery.

  5. Zonked Says:

Superheros, C’mon i want to see originally (Superhero) conceived characters by Mark.

  6. Dave Snyder Says:

Something sit-commy. Impulse when he wrote it was basically a situation comedy and was some of his strongest work.

  7. Bill D. Says:

    Cowboy dinosaurs.

    No, really.

  8. Nick Marino Says:

now that he has the license at BOOM!, i think Mark should do a Muppets comic book.

  9. Joshua Says:

If we’re going to get superheroes, then I’d rather we get a return to Hunter-Killer or Empire, though I know it’ll be awhile on Empire so long as Kitson is exclusive to Marvel.

If I could have anything, I’d want him to do an original concept that hearkens back to the batshit insanity of eighties cartoons. Something crazy like robot cowboys riding dinosaurs in space; actually, that sounds pretty cool. Yeah, I think I want Sheriff Klang and the Cyber Dino-defenders of the 33rd Century.

  10. Auguste Miller Says:

    A historic piece.

(Using the Crossgen examples then smt like Ruse…)

  11. rookdawg Says:

Empire..doesn’t he own it with Kitson? why not do it at boom?

“Empire..doesn’t he own it with Kitson? why not do it at boom?”

I’m sure he plans to, but will have to wait until Kitson is no longer exclusive to Marvel.
