Despite conservative early predictions, The Dark Knight appears poised to gross between $155 million and $160 million by Monday morning, unseating Spider-Man 3 as the top opener of all time for a non-holiday weekend.
The Warner Bros. movie already shattered Spider-Man 3’s $59.8 million opening-day record with a $66.4 million haul on Friday. The Sony Pictures feature went on to gross $151.1 million in its opening weekend in May 2007.
Hollywood gossip columnist Nikke Finke reports that early numbers show The Dark Knight made $48 million on Saturday, less than Spider-Man 3’s $51.3 million second day.
Finke is slightly more reserved in her weekend prediction, placing The Dark Knight’s take somewhere between $153 million and $155 million.
Update: It looks as if The Dark Knight opened with an estimated $155.4 million. Final weekend figures will be available tomorrow.
