Variety is reporting that The Dark Knight may have had the best opening day ever on Friday, with it reportedly taking in somewhere between $60 million and $63 million. That would best Spider-Man 3‘s $59.8 million on its first Friday. As for Spidey’s record $151.1 million weekend, well:
“Dark Knight,” toplining Christian Bale and directed by Christopher Nolan, could nab the highest opening ever for a non-holiday weekend if business stays as strong as expected on Saturday and Sunday. Previous record-holdover for both opening day and best opening for a non-holiday weekend is “Spider-Man 3.”
And it looks like the movie has already beat Batman Begins‘ opening weekend, as its predecessor brought in $48.7 million in its first three days in 2005.
