Empire Online posted the trailer for Watchmen — the one set to appear before The Dark Knight – only to pull it until tomorrow morning. But somehow the footage made its way to YouTube, where you can watch it until the legal department at Warner Bros. has it removed.
Update: And just as quickly … it’s gone. Tune in tomorrow morning when Empire officially posts the trailer. Again.
Update 2: Or you can go here. For now.
Update 4: Now you can watch the trailer guilt-free! (Y’know, if you felt guilty before.) It’s available in assorted flavors at Apple.com.

I’m impressed. Lodge your petty complaints bellow.

HELL YES BROSEPH, SLOW MO FIGHT SCENES IS WHAT WATCHMEN WAS ALL ABOUT. NITE OWL LOOKS HELLA BADASS. THIS IS GONNA OWN HARDER THAN 300 AND SIN CITY COMBINED.
July 17th, 2008 at 4:27 pm
Yup. Nothing says WATCHMEN like Billy Corgan’s high pitched whining!
July 17th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
Aaaaaaaand it got yanked.
July 17th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
And it’s gone.

A great trailer. Love the music pick, and the Manhattan Glass house on Mars looks amazing.

Gone and gone…
July 17th, 2008 at 4:47 pm
That didn’t take long to have it removed (either that or the movie was filmed in an unlit dungeon at night during an eclipse).
July 17th, 2008 at 4:59 pm
anyone have another link?
July 17th, 2008 at 5:00 pm
Taken down already.
July 17th, 2008 at 5:04 pm
damn…I wasn’t quick enough! It’s already been removed.
July 17th, 2008 at 5:31 pm
I went directly to YouTube, typed WATCHMEN Trailer in the search bar and found it (along with some fan made WATCHMEN stuff).
Oh My Goodness…That was INCREDIBLE! I can’t believe what I just saw. Osmodias (I think his name is) looked cool, as did The Owl(?), especially when he landed in the street. His ship emerging from New York’s Harbor is cool too. Holey Moley, it ALL looked awesome! And Dr. Manhattan (I think his name is…the powerful blue guy), he looks on film, EXACTLY as he does in the graphic novel. I mean…EXACTLY! Very, very well done. I am beyond impressed! Even The Comedian looks exactly as he does in the novel.
WOW! This movie is going to ROCK!

Cinema Blend has it and a lot of images:

The music suuuucked.
I watched the preview again on mute, and liked it. Especially the Nite Owl stuff.
If the music in it is going to be nothing but emo bitching,
July 17th, 2008 at 6:33 pm
oops, submitted too soon
If the music is going to be nothing but emo bitching, it will ruin the movie.
Sidenote: are they keeping the timeframe as the 1980’s, or is it being updated for now? That could help in the music department.

Generally very impressed.
Exception being I’m still going to grumble about silk Spectres fetish gear, I mean I understand that the original costume was dated but its just its tacking on cringeworthy modern takes of ’sexiness’ onto the character.
I’m looking forward to seeing more Rorscach though, definatly looked like it had the tone of the book. I’m impressed they actually kept the owl ship as it was.

Manhattan looks incredible but this teaser confirms that Watchmen will probably suffer from the same problem as 300: an overuse of slow-motion. Sin City did it right but the first 15 minutes from 300 were really boring.
Let’s cross fingers Snyder did learn something.
July 17th, 2008 at 6:50 pm
does anyone know the name of the song playing by smashing pumpkins??
July 17th, 2008 at 6:54 pm
A few months ago when the pics of the costumes came out I predicted that this movie would be a critic of the superhero genre of movies.
Well, for those who don’t like the Smashing Pumpkins song used in the trailer, they should look into what other movie featured the original version of that song…Batman and Robin.
July 17th, 2008 at 7:04 pm
Dan: It’s “The End is the Beginning is the End.”
Others: I wouldn’t dwell too much on the music. I’d be surprised if it actually appears in the movie.
July 17th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
I think the music being a bit off-beat is intentional. Watchmen isn’t your run-of-the-mill graphic novel, and the music conveys that this isn’t your run-of-the-mill superhero movie.
July 17th, 2008 at 7:12 pm
Chills, man, chills!
July 17th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
Oh, and this link is official, with an introduction by Zack Snyder himself: http://www.omelete.com.br/cine/100013843/Assista_ao_primeiro_trailer_de_Watchmen.aspx
Just hit “Trailer 1″ or “Trailer 1 Alta Qualidade” in the gallery after the article.

looks awesome!!
July 17th, 2008 at 7:45 pm
That Smashing Pumpkins song was also used to promote…Batman and Robin!
July 17th, 2008 at 7:54 pm
Had to wait a while for the HD version from the official site to actually work, but man was it worth it! It looks wonderful!
The trailer features action sequences, mostly, but they have to make a sale. I only hope Snyder doesn’t overdo the slow-motion bit. It’s not necessary for every action sequence, and quite honestly, it’s played out.
Overall, though, the trailer makes me believe in this movie. Fantastic! WOO!
July 17th, 2008 at 7:58 pm
I’m with Mr. Palmiotti, looks awesome, at the moment. Peace.
July 17th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
God exists!
And he works for America!
July 17th, 2008 at 8:29 pm
This trailer got me pumped. It shows up before The Dark Knight? awesome.
July 17th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
Looks like it’s set in the past, cuz I’m pretty sure that’s the twin towers in the bg as the Owlship comes out of the water.
Does anybody know if the line: ‘They’ll look up and shout save us and I’ll whisper No.” is from the book? It’s been a while since I read it.
This looks great. Very cool.
July 18th, 2008 at 12:59 am
It’s a period piece. It’s meant to take place in an alternate universe version of the eighties like the comic.
July 18th, 2008 at 10:15 am
Wow. Now THAT is how you make an awesome movie trailer. Frank Miller should tkae notes. And for the record, I like the music.
July 18th, 2008 at 12:26 pm
Beautiful. Just beautiful.
July 18th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
The Doc Manhatten effect deserves special mention. It really is eerie-spectacular. Oh, and Ozymandias laying fountain-side smackdown.
July 19th, 2008 at 6:51 pm
ha, notice how Mr Moores name has been left off the credits. If it is any good, and it does look quite tasty, will he backtrack and support the film?
