iTunes adds classic DC cartoons

July 3rd, 2008
Author JK Parkin

iTunes is now carrying episodes of several of DC’s past cartoons, including Batman: The Animated Series, Super Friends, Batman Beyond and even Aquaman. Click here to check them out in iTunes.

It doesn’t look like they have all of Batman: The Animated Series or Superman: The Animated Series quite yet … I never saw the end of the Superman series, for instance, and would like to download it. But hopefully they’ll get them eventually.

Sounds good, I hope this is a sign of DC becoming more internet savvy and e-friendly. Although isn’t this more a move by Warner Entertainment than by DC Comics?

XBox Live Marketplace also recently added these same shows.

The final season of Supes: TAS has been on DVD for awhile now, and not that expensive. If you never saw the ending (which, ironically, just aired on Toon Disney yesterday or maybe the day before) it’s not hard to find.

I’d rather not buy the whole season … I just want to see the one or two episodes I missed.

Knowing it’s showing on Toon Disney, though, I’ll probably just try to TiVo it instead.

    Hey JK,

Yep, both Supes: TAS and Bats: TAS air at least a couple times a day on Toon Disney. The times seem to very, but they both air in the morning (I think Supes is at 8am ET, and Bats at 8:30am ET) and then sometime later in the day. Supes in the early evening, Bats later at night.

JL/JLU reruns continue on Boomerang, for now. They’re just showing JLU over and over at present, but I did stumble across an all-day JL marathon last week Sunday. I’m in the minority, but I actually preferred the original JL Timm-verse show to the JLU show (aside from the Cadmus arc, which admittedly was excellent. The rest of it paled, however,IMO).

They’re also showing, at wildly varying times, the 90′s Spidey, Iron Man, X-Men, and (I think) FF. I gotta say, I’m not a huge fan of those 90′s Marvel cartoons (I’ve tried), so I stick with the DC Timm-verse.

Whoops… Two mea culpas: First, I do know the difference between “vary” and “very.” Thank you VERY much. :-)

Second, those 90′s Marvel cartoons I mentioned are all airing over on Toon Disney, along with Batman: TAS and Superman: TAS. Not Boomerang. I did a piss poor job of editing myself there!

  8. Andrea Says:

I’ve been hoping Boomerang would air the Justice League show but all they will ever show is Justice League Unlimited. I wonder why. I guess I will have to just go and buy the series on DVD. Batman is indeed shown on Toon Disney but they are in no particular order and it seems Disney will only air about half the series over and over.

Unlike on DVD, the Aquaman cartoons on iTunes carry the original “stay tuned” commercial bumpers as well as the DC guest star adventures such as Justice League of America, Flash, Teen Titans, etc… Much like how it was originally broadcast in syndication during the 70′s.
