I think these screenshots have already popped up in various places around the web, but in any case, Midway sent over several screenshots from the upcoming game Mortal Kombat vs. the DC Universe … which has left a lot of fans scratching their heads or underwhelmed, as Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon noted in the Q&A with GameSpot I linked to earlier.
The images include four arenas and four “battle shots.” That’s Metropolis up top, with Hell, the Batcave and Gotham after the jump, followed by various characters beating the crap out of each other.
Boon and Jimmy Palmiotti, who is writing the story part of the game, will appear on a panel in San Diego to answer questions about the game.

Looks great. I still don’t understand how someone like Scorpion is gonna go toe to toe with Superman, but it should still be a fun game.

I don’t understand why there’s so much animosity directed at this title. All I want is a simple fighter with a deep pool of playable heroes. Hopefully this game fits the bill.

Yeah, Flash’s gloves are the wrong colour. Hopefully it’s just a simple fix, because it’s just a basic thing. It’s like in that JL: Heroes, when they got his thunderbolt wrong. Is it so hard to look at a comic and design it accordingly?

I laughed at this title when I first heard about it but this looks pretty good! I’ve been waiting for a DC fighting game for quite awhile. I hope Supergirl, Wonder Woman, Solomon Grundy, Two Face, Penguin, Joker are in this. Darkseid would be really awesome. I also hope there are more than a dozen playable DC characters. I’d like as many characters to choose from as I have playing Marvel VS Capcom. However, if there aren’t fatalities …. if Superman can’t pull a Sub Zero fatality I’ll be really disappointed.

Whether you like MC or not, these fighting arenas are just beautiful. The Batcave and broken Metropolis are my favorites. And weirdly enough, I like the yellow gloves on Flash. They create symmetry for the boots, okay?
And call me a horrible human being, but given the Mortal Kombat penchant for environments you can destroy while fighting . . . well, let’s just say that I’ll snorty-laugh if I can actually end up punching somebody through Jason Todd’s Trophy Case.

Scorpion is a supernatural being. Thus he can go toe-to-toe with Superman. Most of the MK characters will receive a power upgrade as part of the storyline. Thus allowing them to keep up and inflict damage.

Confirmed from DC so far; Superman, Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Power Girl, Black Canary, Hawkman and Flash.
Confirmed from MK so far; Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Sonya Blade, Jax, Kabal, Rayden and Kitana.
Ed Boon confirmed that the MK characters and the DCU villains will be using Fatalities. DCU heroes will be using Brutalities, to maintain with their non-lethal stance.

I’m hoping Gorilla Grodd makes it - the blood thirsty intelligent super ape version that Geoff wrote would kick arse! As for the Flash’s glove there’s a cool Flash vs Scorpion image at Gamespot that shows its more or a ninja arm guard - and his glove underneath is still red.

Wow! did you see how they rendered the Batcave! I for one (as both a fan of the MK Mythos, and DC Comics) can’t wait for this game. But that is a good question: how does Superman not beat the crap out of Scorpion? Or Batman, for that matter? Should be a fun story. Who knows… maybe the game is one big Final Crisis tie in.

If NIGHTWOLF is used in the game, DC’d better use Long Shadow! Or Manitou Raven. Or APACHE CHIEF. lol
I always wanted to see this character having a decent comic counterpart. (Manitou Raven, from Kelly’s JLA time, was ok, but turned out to be something else. And then died.)
I’d make him kinda porweful. And brutal. Being able to grab Black Adam flying (that’d be fast!), throwing him at the floor and then attacking him successively with the foot. You know, the kind of scene that would translate just fine to a Mortal Kombat game.

Nah, I don’t think it’s tied into “Final Crisis”. The only relation to the DC Multiverse is that both the DCU and MK universes are separate universes, which come together.

Superman’s weak against magic. Every MK fighter uses magic (fireballs, ice balls, flaming skulls, etc). So Superman has all of his moves and super strength, but when magic is played, he takes damage normally instead of being immune to everything…i feel like a huge dork now. =P
