Sam Witwer — Crashdown of Battlestar Galactica fame — will play the villainous Doomsday in the eighth season of Smallville.
Michael Ausiello reports that Witwer will begin his series-regular role as Davis Bloome, a bartender at the Metropolis lounge Ace of Clubs. The character description continues:
“He plays down his smoldering good looks with a self-effacing wit and down-to-earth soulfulness. But he has long felt like an outsider (hence his nickname). And beneath his charismatic, easy-going demeanor lies a brooding sense of isolation and insecurity. When he begins to delve into the haunting mysteries of his true origins, a darker truth begins to emerge, one of blood and serial murders, one of survival and utter destruction – one in which he is forced to confront the true evil inside of him.”
Ausiello also has word that newcomer Cassidy Freeman has been cast as Tess, a vengeful firecracker with super-strength hired by Lex to mind his estate while he’s away.

Hmmm. I stopped watching the show after the first season, but I’ve kept up with its news. This sounds like an idea totally out of left-field and one that will enrage fans. I always found Doomsday as a tool to deliver certain plots rather than an interesting, rounded character. Making him human renders him even less interesting.

And at the end of the season we find out that Darkseid (played of course by a CGI’d Tom Poston) was responsible for it all.
This show should never end. Ever.

Ah, so the stupid get stupider. The show had so much potential but from the villain of the week in season one to the emonizing of Clark Kent, this show must die

Smallville is still on the air? Shows how much I pay attention.

I can honestly see Smallville Doomsday being just another 20something guy that’ll get in the way of Clark/Lana’s love.—
My post from when news of Doomsday as a Smallville villain first hit. Although, with Lana on a limited schedual this last season, the pretty boy will probably date Lois.
June 19th, 2008 at 7:00 pm
Cut the crap and put Clark in blue tightsuit and red brief already!
June 19th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
Looks more like Mr. Mxyzptlk
June 19th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
I still hold the faintest of hope this is all a swerve and that Davis Bloome and Doomsday will be 2 different characters.

“Sam Witwer — Crashdown of Battlestar Galactica fame”
I’ve seen every episode and can’t remember him…
June 19th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
sigh
I liked Smallville for the first two maybe three seasons. But then half the characters got annoying, and everything started to get too much for a picky comic fan. Lois Lane was pushing it, but introducing characters like Jimmy and other things that really Clark shouldn’t be exposed to until he’s out of Smallville just go to be too much! For longevity, I see why they did it, but they began to alienate the comic fans. Plus Lex knows Clark far too well not to eventually realize that they’re the same guy when they both move to Metropolis. Oh well. At least I have the first three seasons, where I can pretend it ended.
I’ll tune in for the last episode in hopes we get to see Tom Welling as SUPERMAN instead of just Clark.

“I’ve seen every episode and can’t remember him…”
He died in the third episode of Season 2, shot by Baltar on Kobol after Crashdown threatened to kill Cally.
June 19th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Well, this is certainly “Doomsday” for the show, anyway!
June 19th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
This is the most handsome Doomsday ever looked!
June 19th, 2008 at 9:45 pm
I’m exicited for the next season, when does it start?
June 19th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
Oh man, I can’t believe this, IMO is the most awful idea I’ve ever heard. This show is getting really annoying and boring. Peace.
June 19th, 2008 at 11:52 pm
That’s Darth Vader’s Secret Apprentice from “The Force Unleashed.”
June 20th, 2008 at 3:55 am
I’ve seen this guy before and cannot put my finger in what. The only thing I remember from him is thinking that he looked alien. I could see him as Namor.
June 20th, 2008 at 4:43 am
Hey Fonz, I think I see a shark, let’s gas up the speedboat!
June 20th, 2008 at 5:47 am
Hmmm. If they absolutely had to cast an actor to be Doomsday, he should ave been the actor who was Stallone’s nemesis in the movie, Cobra. That guy would have been a good “human” interpretation of Doomsday. This guy here…too much of a prettyboy to pull this idea off.
June 20th, 2008 at 7:10 am
The first couple seasons were alright, but come on. This is the worst procrastination I’ve ever seen. They’ve had several of his villains, they’ve had other superheroes come in, and they’ve even had the Justice League, and all of this happened BEFORE he donned the blue tights!? Come on!
June 20th, 2008 at 9:47 am
He also played the hot Marine in Stephen King’s “The Mist”. He was the one the religious zealots kicked out of the store as a sacrifice.
June 20th, 2008 at 9:51 am
lol @ Crashdown…
June 20th, 2008 at 10:03 am
Maybe he’s going to get Kryptonited and start getting more ugly-like. It could happen.
Haven’t watched any of season 7, ’cause my wife and I wait for the DVD sets, but we’ve at least been entertained by the first 6 seasons.
Y’all are right, though. This just can’t last much longer. Clark HAS to put on the suit soon.
June 20th, 2008 at 10:05 am
Being smart, I’ll reserve my opinions after the episode.
June 20th, 2008 at 10:15 am
For the most part. I think Smallville’s casting has been great for the characters. (I love me some Kara
but this is just weird lol I bet you it’s gonna be like a Hulk thing where Doomsday only comes out when he’s angry or can’t get into Lois’ pants.
June 20th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
This dude played the fake Ice Truck Killer in Dexter. That’s how I recognized him.
June 20th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
I’ve watched every episode since day one and this has to be one of the worst ideas this show has come up with. I know they want to be somewhat different from the Superman comics but come on your going to introduce DOOMSDAY disguised as a human!?!? It just doesn’t make sense. This is the same creature that KILLED Superman and there going to introduce him before Clark even learns how to fly or even wears the suit. I’ve supported this show since it started, went through the crapfest that was the freak of the week, the crapfest that was Clark and Lana, and the crapfest of emo Clark. Now they bring in a creature that shouldn’t even be introduced at all within this continuity. And don’t even get me started on Lex knowing Clark’s secret at the end of the season finale, that was just piss poor writing, which will probably be rectified by Lex having his memory wiped, or amensia, or something they’ve already done before and if Michael Rosenbaum ever decides to make a cameo apperance. Either way this will probably be the final dagger for this show and I am very sad to see it go down this way. DOOMSDAY…what are you thinking?!
June 20th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
This is just dumb! What they should have done is hire him to be Bruce Wayne!!!!!!!!!
June 20th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
i don’t see why it should enrage fans just because it doesn’t stick to the word by word source material, doomsday was always a stupid pointless character, only created to kill Superman, someone actually does something with him? good god. the horror.
by the way, DC doesn’t allow Bruce Wayne on Smallville to not conflict with Nolan’s franchise.
June 20th, 2008 at 4:50 pm
Who care Like messi said the only reason Doomsday was created was to kill superman and DC even fuck that up
Beside Batman Tv show had Villains of the week and no one care so what make superman different
I will say the last two season were not good but Blame the comic book fans who care about continuity they ruined this show
You all want Superman continuity so you all want to be Evil because Superman was first bald and evil
June 21st, 2008 at 12:08 am
I’ve spoke to Tom Welling a few times and I can tell you that this season is the last according to him. He knows it’s going nowhere and when I’ve talked to him he seemed like he wanted it to end.
June 21st, 2008 at 7:31 am
“by the way, DC doesn’t allow Bruce Wayne on Smallville to not conflict with Nolan’s franchise.”
It’s not DC that will not allow Bruce on Smallville, It DC’s parent company WB.
June 21st, 2008 at 6:36 pm
Ving Rhames or whose that big tall brother who played on the Green Mile ? Either one of those two would have made a hell of a Doomsday. Each of them have strength size and character to pull it off and if done right could be a ratings smasher.
Hell either of these two with a little makeup and camara angle would be great for the next Superman movie Doomsday!
June 23rd, 2008 at 8:51 am
The big reason I do like Smallville is because they do it without putting Clark Kent in tights and a cape. If somebody really had super powers, do you think they would run around in their underwear? That would be too much camp. Also, instead of the ridiculous secret identity crap he keeps a low profile. It works for TV. So what, if they take villains and give them human characteristics. Super hero characters should have more naturalism(for lack of a better word) to them. I’d probably read comics more if they did.
June 23rd, 2008 at 9:27 pm
After season 5, I stoped watching Smallville. That show is now CRAP!
June 25th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
The show jumped the shark back in season 4 by introducing Lois Lane in the show. The only problem is that she worked, and was more interesting to watch than Lana or Chloe combined. Finally a girl that didn’t secretly pine for Clark, but will in the end marry him.
On a side note, Clark really should have moved to Metropolis by now. He spends more time in Metropolis than Smallville anyway, so it really just makes sense.
The trick to ending a good show is to leave them wanting more, not to leave them wondering why you weren’t gone two to three years ago.

i love smallville
