In a terse statement posted yesterday on his message board, writer Chuck Dixon announced, “I am no longer employed by DC Comics in any capacity.”
The post followed Monday’s news that Frank Tieri will be writing Batman and the Outsiders #11-12, part of a “Batman R.I.P.” tie-in.
Dixon, a veteran writer of such DC titles as Batman, Nightwing and Birds of Prey, had been working on Robin and Batman and the Outsiders. He was brought on board the latter book in 2007, just before its relaunch, replacing announced writer Tony Bedard.
Dixon wrote the 1991 Robin miniseries, and was the original writer on the ongoing series that launched two years later. He remained on the book until May 2002, and then returned in March of this year.

I literally, just Thursday, said Dixon on the Outsiders was a great thing.
June 11th, 2008 at 1:15 pm
Wow…. huh? Well… crap.
June 11th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
Wow, I’m honestly shocked. Dixon was supposed to be writing August and September’s issues of Booster Gold. He seemed genuinely excited about it, too. I wonder what happened.
June 11th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
Wow, I hate to hear news like this.
It is sad for all parties involved. I really enjoy Chuck Dixon’s work and I will miss him from the DC projects

1. This sucks.
2. This shouldn’t be a post on the blog. This is front page news that demands some kind of follow-up.

I was saying to my CBG this morning, “Thank God for Chuck Dixon,” based on the bang-up job he’s been doing on BATO, Robin, and the recent Robin/Spoiler special (just a fantastic book). Then I got home, found this story on CBR, and called him back!
June 11th, 2008 at 3:16 pm
I hear this stems from the misconduct incident where he had Robin impregnate Supergirl.
I’m just making shit up.
June 11th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
DAMN YOU, MELROSE, for posting anything newsworthy on the blog! (shakes an angry fist)
June 11th, 2008 at 4:45 pm
Dang, I loved BATO, and was really enjoying Robin for the first time in years.

When I see DiDio at B-More Comic-Con I’m going to take him to task on this. This is just terrible management — from announcing McKeever as the new BOP writer, and then retracting. The same thing with Batman and the Outsiders. We get — what — five issues of Robin from Dixon. You’ve got Grant Morrison basically telling DiDio, “Screw Countdown — I’m gonna do what I want on Final Crisis.” What the hell is going on in those offices? It seems that Marvel employees treat each other like a Dysfunctional family, but DC employees treat each other like total strangers or with disrespect.

I totally agree that this should be a news item, not hidden on the bottom of the home page as a blog entry.
June 11th, 2008 at 5:30 pm
Dixon’s initial run on Robin is what got me into comics. To see such a great writer go out with a whimper and not a bang is shocking. Alan Moore he wasn’t, but he knew how to write a good Batman-and-friends story. I have to wonder if he broke up with DC or DC broke up with him.
June 11th, 2008 at 5:37 pm
I was really happy that Chuck Dixon was starting to make a major comeback at DC, and now I’m extremely disappointed.
June 11th, 2008 at 5:47 pm
That is truly a shame – he was doing great things.
June 11th, 2008 at 6:18 pm
Well there goes my Robin subscription. =|
June 11th, 2008 at 8:10 pm
Big news- should have had more prominence.
(Odd question– why do I need to enter name and email when I’m already logged in?)
June 11th, 2008 at 8:19 pm
Wow… This is stunning! Dixon’s got some major Bat-Chops. I can’t imagine those books without him.
June 11th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
Dan Didiot strikes again.
June 11th, 2008 at 10:14 pm
Aw, man. Robin was finally fun to read again.
June 11th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
And life goes on…

C’mon, folks. This was an announcement made via Dixon’s message board. For it to be a front page article, you’d have to have gotten responses from some people to talk about it. I’m fairly certain that there are people working on getting such responses and whether that info is posted here or as an article, there’ll likely be a front page link for it when that happenss.
I know people are frustrated with the changes and all, but you’re seeing a failure here where there is none.

DC’s loss is Marvel’s gain…?
June 12th, 2008 at 3:53 am
well hopefully his next gig will be at marvel or one of the other comics publishers looking for mad writing skilles
June 12th, 2008 at 7:46 am
No, it should have been on the front page. Even if there isn´t much to report about, in this case the announcement is news itself.
Frankly Newsrama is changing too much into a media site where comics related movie and tv stuff suddenly seems to be much more important than the comics itself. Maybe that is not the intention (maybe it is just a slow news-week), but at least it is the impression it gives. And this is sad.
June 12th, 2008 at 9:10 am
DC finally found someone with a decent manage of the Bat titles and now this.
DC is a head-less chicken looking for a clue.

I don’t see it as a failure of Blog@ at all: I see it as a failure of Newsarama main. They frequently post press releases for goodness sake as “articles” so a breaking news item of this importance doesn’t seem unwarranted. At the very least, they should have made this an item on the main page saying that Blog@ “broke” the story on the site and that Newsarama Central is working on getting more info on the story. A win-win for both divisions as it informs the fans prominently and brings attention to Blog@.
June 12th, 2008 at 8:02 pm
No, it shouldn’t go on the main page because the main page is weak.
The Fu here is strong.

It may be that Dixon CANNOT talk about it at this time. If he is under contract, he may not be able to chat about it until the contract expires.
June 13th, 2008 at 3:19 am
I really liked Dixon’s work at DC BEFORE he left for Crossgen but frankly his work since returning has been rather pedestrian.
I wonder if he had trouble with the current editorial team and not being the “go to” writer for DC anymore.
Seems that BaTO has been problematic since they launched it…maybe they should just scrub it and start from scratch.
June 13th, 2008 at 11:12 pm
Well, I for one am glad. The man doesn’t have any idea how to write the Batman related family. His Nightwing is pathetic, his Robin acts like he has any right at all to lecture Spoiler on what to do with HER child, his Spoiler lets herself be pushed around by Batman and Robin…and his Batman is a fucking lunatic.
Don’t let the door hit you on the way out, Dixon. And this time? Stay gone.
