Editor Scott Allie and artist Jo Chen unveil her cover for Buffy the Vampire Slayer #20, an homage to Norman Rockwell.
It’s worth noting that the characters appear to be watching Buffy the Animated Series, which was greenlit by Fox in 2002 but never made. It was set to be produced by Buffy creator Joss Whedon and Jeph Loeb — and it’s Loeb who’s writing this issue (due out in November).

Loeb? LOEB???!! No, please, no!! Keep that man away from BUFFY! Actually, keep him away from writing ANYTHING.

Regardless of the story inside, that image above has one of the most accurate depictions of the actors portraying the characters.

Agreed, Squashua. It really does look like Brendon, Hannigan and Gellar. And it’s cool to see them just sitting there in a room watching TV.
Too bad Loeb is writing it.

I’ve seen infinitely good work from Loeb. And I’ve (more recently, sadly) seen work that I would regard as “Fair” at best. But I believe he will reign in his over-the-top flavor on something like Buffy. Especially with the work that’s come before, the editor they have in place, and Joss overseeing it.
And that cover is truly awesome. And a great shout-out to Joss/Buffy fans.

This is a follow up question specifically for Captain Temerity. I realize that taste is always an individual thing but, seriously, what of Jeph Loeb’s have you experienced that is “infinitely good” ? I see that you’re an obvious fan so I’m not meaning this as a dig, I’m genuinely curious as to what of Loeb’s could possibly garner a review qualified as such.

re: Joshua
how about anything he’s created with Tim Sale?
The Batman Halloween specials, especially The Long Halloween
Superman for All Seasons,
the colors series with Marvel, especially Daredevil: Yellow.
Any of those series stand up pretty darn well with anything else,
compare how flawlessly the long halloween ties in with the continuity set by Miller in Year One.
Anyway, back on topic, This cover is great.

Loeb can be a good writer. It’s been seen in the past. Thing is that he does need an editor. Marvel has given him free reign and his stories have become convoluted and goofy.
I doubt Joss and Dark Horse are going to be as lenient.
