ReBoot

Over at Bags and Boards, Tom McLean details the return of ReBoot, both as a webcomic and a film trilogy.

ReBoot was a computer-generated cartoon that ran on Canada’s YTV and ABC here in the States in the mid-1990s. As Steve Fritz reported over on the main site last year, Dan DiDio worked on the show before moving on to DC Comics. In fact, he canceled it after the second season when Disney bought ABC, then went on to work on the show’s third season for YTV after he was let go by Disney.

The new webcomics site is live; according to McLean, the show’s fans helped with the comic:

The comic, titled “Paradigm’s Lost,” was developed from and molded by ideas from fans at the comics site Zeros 2 Heroes. Fan participation has been a driving principle of Rainmaker Studios’ efforts to revive the property, says Paul Gertz, exec VP of the Vancouver-based operation. So far, the strategy has successfully engaged the diehard fans that are essential to the success of genre entertainment, he says.

“The hard core fans of this kind of entertainment, these are the people that stand in line for a week before ‘Star Wars’ opens,” he says. “These are the people who make or break films their opening weekend.”

Jon Cooksey, who previously worked on the TV shows Rugrats and So Weird, is developing the screenplay for the first film. The Hollywood Reporter has more details on the films.

The key words here are ‘when Disney bought ABC’. All the previous cartoons, except the Warners cartoons, were cancelled to make room for all-Disny creations (which mostly sucked). DiDio had the job of cancelling the shows, but he didn’t make the decision to do so.
