There was a lot of television and movie news over the long weekend, so let’s just wade in:

• Universal Pictures has launched the full website for Wanted, director Timur Bekmambetov’s adaptation of the miniseries by Mark Millar and J.G. Jones. The movie opens on June 27. [Wanted]

Whiteout, Dominic Sena’s big-screen adaptation of the Oni Press miniseries by Greg Rucka and Steve Lieber, finally gets a release date: Sept. 19. [ShockTilYouDrop.com]

• A 15-minute preview of The Incredible Hulk reveals a mix of the ’70s TV series and various comic-book incarnations. Director Louis Leterrier says the film is partly inspired by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale’s 2004 miniseries Hulk: Gray. [Coming Soon, Sci Fi Wire]

• I’m convinced that, pretty soon, we’ll be able to watch all of The Incredible Hulk via promotional clips. Four more are floating around online. [Moviefone, MTV.com, MySpace, Yahoo! Movies]

• NBC’s Heroes will return at 8 p.m. Eastern on Sept. 22 with a one-hour recap, followed by a two-hour season premiere. [Futon Critic]

• Christopher Tolkien, the son of JRR Tolkien, is asking a judge to let him terminate the film rights to the planned adaptation of The Hobbit. He claims New Line Cinema still owes the family £80 million under the terms of the original sale. [Times Online]

• Peter Jackson and Guillermo del Toro held an online chat with fans over the weekend to talk about The Hobbit. There’s a transcript. [First Showing]

Batman: The Brave and the Bold and Star Wars: The Clone Wars are part of Cartoon Network’s new push targeting teen and tween boys. [Variety]

• Why Hellboy II will be better than Iron Man. [The Movie Blog]

• With Tobey Maguire apparently bowing out, and Jake Gyllenhaal tied up with Prince of Persia, who should play the webslinger in Spider-Man 4? [Cinematical]

    Joseph Gordon-Levitt for PP

Shouldn’t that one-hour “recap” of Heroes be more an explanation/apology?

Mr. Tolkien, for f***’s sake, do NOT interfere with Jackson & del Toro’s making The Hobbit (while Sir Ian is still with us)! You’ve got issues with New Line. Fine. So did Jackson. He worked them out. Don’t piss off the fans of what your dad created.

I don’t mean for this to turn into a flame war (again), but the new Brave & Bold cartoon is being marketed towards “tweens” and “teens”? Sorry, but everything I’ve seen looks like B&B is aimed at much smaller kids. Kids under 10. And even some of them will likely find it “childish” now. Unless they’re retooling what was originally announced, I don’t see the show capturing the teen audience.

I have nothing against Hellboy, but it’s not going to better than Iron Man.

Is Maguire definitely not returning to Spidey? I don’t mind him, I just want a better, less clunky movie than S3 was. Also, how do we know that Jake G’s schedule wouldn’t allow for Spidey 4? I was under the impression that there’s no finished script yet. Perhaps I should read the article?

Anyhow, Andrew’s choice of Joseph G-L is, (while a bit offbeat) an inspired choice. He’s a fine actor, and he’s come a long a way since “3rd Rock”!

Read the article… Nothing definitive about Maguire either way, and nothing about there being S4 script that’s even been STARTED, let alone finished and ready to shoot.

  4. Kevin Melrose Says:

The whole point of that piece is speculation.

  5. Shaun Says:

Yep, I surmised as much Kevin… I just thought the article (theirs, not yours linking to it) was a bit superfluous in that we have no idea what’s happening with Spidey 4, including if there will even be one!

I think it’s a safe bet that there will be, since, even if most people hated S3, the fact remains that it made a boat load of cash. But that’s still a ways off.

Finding this site made all the work I did to find it look like nothing. The reason being that this is such an informative post. I wanted to thank you for this special read of the subject. I ate every bit of it and I submitted your site to some of the biggest social networks so others can find your blog.
