• Hero, Perry Moore‘s well-received young-adult novel about the world’s first gay superhero, may be heading to television. Moore says the live-action series has received offers from two networks: “It’s not campy either — it’s not The Gayest American Hero. He just happens to be gay. It’s just one of the many things he wrestles with.” [Vulture]
• The June 9 episode of NBC’s American Gladiators will be Hulk-themed to promote The Incredible Hulk movie, which opens four days later. Lou Ferrigno, who played the Hulk in the ’70s TV series, will guest star. In addition, 1,000 pairs of Hulk Hands will be given to audience members, and be worn by gladiators as they compete in the Gauntlet. The arena’s water, lighting and, well, pretty much everything else will be turned green for the episode. NBC Universal owns the television network and Universal Pictures, which is producing The Incredible Hulk with Marvel Studios. [The Hollywood Reporter]
• Sony Pictures has renewed its movie rights to the Spider-Man franchise, which means we could see a fourth installment in 2010 or 2011. [IESB]
• Peter Cuneo confirms that Marvel Studios won’t make any R-rated movies. That’s not necessarily the case with films made in partnership with other studios, though. [IESB]
• Hellboy II‘s viral-marketing campaign — Humans for the Ethical Treatment of Fairies, Elves and Trolls — goes commercial, with T-shirts, coffee mugs, buttons and the like. [Underwire]
• New webcomics for NBC’s Heroes will debut this summer, and will feature some new characters. [ComicMix]
• Want to see more scans of the cast from the Dragonball live-action movie? Yeah, me neither. [Topless Robot]
• Then how about a first look at Kristin Kreuk as Chun-Li in Street Fighter? [First Showing]

Whatever…DB looks good as far as casting goes…everyone’s complaining about it…but everyone else robot-army childhood toy commercials turned into movies, so I get this (though if Thundercats could be made without looking horrible I’d trade it up for DB…it’d be worth it just to watch ytmnd the week of its release).
Good chance this will be horrible, but the casting looks perfect.

Wow, I’m really excited about Street Fighter: The Legend of a Single Character from a Series That Only Exists to Pit Multiple Characters Against Each Other, so to Say That This Film Has Already Missed the Point Is Putting It Lightly.

More Spidey movies? If Marvel Studios were to somehow get the right back from Sony I might be excited. But considering what a steaming turd S3 was, I’ll wait and see.
I was under the impression that Maguire and Dunst weren’t interested in coming back. I didn’t hate either of them, the way some people did, but they can do better than Dunst.
I would just hope that the series would take a new direction, and be nothing like that last movie. It made a ton of money, but I think S4 could suffer a serious backlash unless some changes are made.

SAVE THE TROLLS is my new favorite slogan. I’m gonna buy a button and bumper sticker.
“Street Fighter: The Legend of a Single Character from a Series That Only Exists to Pit Multiple Characters Against Each Other, so to Say That This Film Has Already Missed the Point Is Putting It Lightly.”
Bah, since the whole idea seems to be to make movies focusing on a character with the others as supporting members/enemies I think you’re missing the point.
If this makes money, they make Ryu, they make Ken, they maybe even make Sagat, the misunderstood thug. All of which introduce and build upon each other.
Plus Chun-Li has always been one of the most popular characters in the series, right up there with Ryu and Ken, you can’t make a SF game without Chun-Li.
I’m not saying it will be good, or work, but the scheme makes some sort of sense and mimics the game, you pick a character and play. You play through that character. Get it?
Putting all the characters even the major ones, in one movie is overkill.
Call me when they make the Dan Hibiki movie. I suggest Will Arnette, he may be a little a old but he’s played the complete jackass so much that he’s perfect for Dan, a character so arrogant and stupid he taunts after every single move.
I’d pay $20 to see a scene where they recreate Dan’s 30 second taunt super move.

So, what does this mean? Marvel’s not going to take over the Punisher franchise after Lionsgate’s time is up.
