The spring edition of Comic-Con Magazine has what it calls “your first look” at Samuel L. Jackson as the villainous Octopus in The Spirit. While it’s not the first – we’ve seen, at least, a leaked green-screen shot, and a close-up of Jackson in a suit — it’s certainly the best.
In Will Eisner’s comics, The Spirit’s arch-enemy never showed his face, but in Frank Miller’s adaptation he obviously will. It’s good to see The Octopus keeps the trademark gloves, though.
“The Octopus was always a cipher in the old comics,” Miller said last year in an interview. “I knew you couldn’t get away with two hours of a guy whose face you never saw.”

“I knew you couldn’t get away with two hours of a guy whose face you never saw.”
But it probably have been brilliant if you had tried.

A three-word rebuttal: Ernst Stavro Blofeld.

I think it’s more likely that it would have been weird and unsatisfying.
