Yes, I would love to read the contents of the comic book. However, instead of rushing to buy it for a ridiculous price, I think I will wait for it to be scanned and posted online or for the story to reveal it's terminal importance/relevance, whichever comes first.

Secondly, my opinion about Johns choice to pick up the knife. Notice when Richard left (abruptly and seemingly frustrated) he said to the woman, "I'm afraid John isn't quite ready for our school." I think he chose the knife out of anger, proving to Richard that John is not ready to realize his destiny. Somehow Richard knows who John is to the island, whether that be due to the theory that Richard travels through time or other speculations.

So many questions. They better reveal answers to every question they ever raised in this show! I'll be disappointed if they do not work them all in.

I believe the comic's cover contains the clue to the season finale.
"...move the island."
Can YOU figure out how?
If you read the actual comic story, you'd know...

This has been beaten to death in other forums, but Alpert's test of young Locke was similar to how the next Dalai Lama is chosen after the current one dies. Subtext? OH YEAH! Locke's clearly "the chosen one" to lead the island, or at least Alptert believes he might be.

Of course, it was also noted in the episode that Locke's mom was named Emily. Same name as... Wait for it... BEN's mom. They don't appear to be the same woman, since we (supposedly) saw Locke's mom alive in season 1. But a detail like that is too big to write off as coincidence. Giving the two moms the same name is an intentional choice, whatever the reason may be.

Anyhow, the use of the comic was really cool. I cannot wait for the final three hours of this (awesome) season. Waiting 7-8 months for the next season will be the hard part. :-( Eat your heart out, "Heroes."

Ben - "We have to move the island."

Wow! Thanks for this. I was very curious about that comic - wasn't sure if they'd used a real one or just made one up for the show.

Oh crap! Thanks for peeping what that comic was. First, I thought it might be a fake comic, but then I know that Lost likes to put real easter eggs in their episodes. Now that you show the book (without the knife obscuring it) it totally foreshadows Locke's last line of the episode.

I was shocked at first when young John picked the knife instead of the comic (I would've picked the comic, too) but then I remembered the hunter in him and it figured.

John needed the island to give him a little convincing...
