From "The Spirit" teaser trailer

In a show of confidence, Lionsgate has moved up the release of Frank Miller’s The Spirit from Jan. 16, 2009, to Dec. 25, 2008 — prime position for the holiday season.

The movie, based on Will Eisner’s classic comic-strip character, is Miller’s directorial debut. Gabriel Macht, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson and Eva Mendes star.

Man, they must have a lot of confidence in this flick.

Personally, when I saw the trailer, I thought “It looks good, but it looks just like SIN CITY”. What I’m afraid of is, after THE SPIRIT, audiences will probably be tired of this visual style and not give a damn about SIN CITY 2. But that’s something to worry about later. I’m still looking forward to THE SPIRIT. I probably won’t go see it opening day (my wife would kill me if I asked to go to the movies on Christmas!), but I’ll see it not long after.

The trailer did nothing for me, and I’m not at all into Eisner’s stuff…so I’ll probably be skipping this one.

If you aren’t into Eisner stuff at all, you might like this movie.

Moving it from January probably is a good sign.

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus…and his name is FRANK MILLER. :D

“The sleigh calls to me, and I cannot deny her. She is my mother and my lover.”

“Dick Grayson, twelve years old, wanted a Nintendo Wii.”

“I keep the hat on. It’s better that way.”

Everything from the trailer to the behind the scenes pictures make this look awful. Please Frank make 1 asian person not a ninja!

That’s the lamest critique I’ve ever read.
