Kirby tribute in the New Yorker

May 7th, 2008

I like to think my IQ goes up every time I go to Jeff Trexler’s blog, where I found the above image. In the monthly caption contest that appears at the end of each issue of the New Yorker, artist Harry Bliss offers up a Kirby monster tribute. Jeff’s got the original cover it’s based off of, as well as more comic goodness from that same issue, so go check out his blog.

The New Yorker bought the cartoon without a caption. Why? Because, Neil Gaiman couldn’t think of one. Huh? That’s right. Harry Bliss emailed the comic writer asking for a caption to “his drawing.” Hmmm.
