Ted Key, creator of the comic strip Hazel that later became a TV series, died on Saturday after a 1 1/2-year battle with cancer.
King Features, which still syndicates Hazel, has a biography for Key up on their site. In addition to Hazel, Key also created Peabody and Sherman, the time-traveling duo who appeared on Rocky and Bullwinkle. He also developed the stories for several Disney movies, including Gus and The Cat from Outer Space.
On a personal note, Key’s work was probably the first comic art I ever saw, as hanging in my parents’ house is an original Hazel comic strip. Key gave it to my great-grandfather, who he served with during World War II.

JK,
Thank you very much for posting this. If you get a chance, please contact me. I’m interested in finding out your great grandfather’s name and when he served with my dad.
Thanks again.
