NOOOOOOOOOOOO…

…oooooooooooooooooooo:

While all good things must come to an end, all lame things must end as well, so it is with a heavy heart that I am closing the doors on Dave’s Long Box.

One more reason to hate ABC, as Dave Campbell put away his long box for one final time. First Darkseid dies and then this? Double-U Tee Eff, world?

Wow. Thanks for the Darkseid spoiler. Hadn’t quite got my hands on the latest issue of Countdown yet.

It’s great when I avoid every major news story about an issue or event, so as not to ruin anything, and then spoilers are lobbed at me from a completely unrelated topic.

What the heck is the deal with that? It’s incredibly lame.

  2. gopher Says:

I agree. People should refrain from talking about all story aspects of comics forever.

  3. PMasta Says:

Yeah, because I completely suggested that comic stories never get discussed “forever”.

Actually, I suggested that popular comics commentators not toss around spoilers on articles and posts that are not topically related to comic stories.

  4. Ian L. Says:

Graeme, you made a big error spoiling Darkseid in such a manner. It’s been a week, man!

  5. Kevin Melrose Says:

So what’s the appropriate amount of time? Two weeks? A month?

  6. Dweeze Says:

I’m tempted to say it quits being a spoiler the moment the comic is released, but will bend enough to say it quits being a spoiler by the time the next comics release date is closer than the previous comics release date. Yes, there may be some people who for one reason or another haven’t read a book yet that they plan to read. But at that point the responsibility for keeping spoilers unspoiled becomes entirely a personal responsibility, and if you truly think you can stay unspoiled at any portion of a comics website, well, let’s hold back any snark and just say that maybe now you’re more aware of how unlikely it is that you can stay unspoiled at any portion of a comics website.

  7. Crackerbob Says:

OMG HOW DARE WE DISCUSS COMIC STORYLINES!!

  8. Ed Says:

I came here to say what people had to say about the sad demise of one of the most enjoyable comics blogs ever, and all I see are spoiler-pussies whining and the people arguing with them?
In any case, I’ll miss DLB a great deal, at least he won’t be deleting his archives (he won’t, will he?), people who do that are scum.

  9. Dave Campbell Says:

Thanks Graeme - for spoiling Darkseid’s death for me, you &%$#. Ha ha! I kid.

  10. Midnight Says:

Not the first time, Graeme spoilt something as an unfunny aside and probably getting a good chuckle out of our reaction as well. If many of his posts were not often funny, observant or just plain interesting, I would have stopped reading his blogs ages ago, because his attitude to this really pisses me off.

That being said, THE funniest blogger of all has just left the building. Thanks, Dave.

  11. ce Says:

I hope people are at least leaving complimentary farewells to Dave over at his blog.

  12. PMasta Says:

“So what’s the appropriate amount of time? Two weeks? A month? ”

It’s not a time issue. Did the spoiler in this post add something to the intent of the post? No, it didn’t.

“But at that point the responsibility for keeping spoilers unspoiled becomes entirely a personal responsibility”

When a spoiler is tossed on an unrelated post, it takes responsibility out of my hands.

“If many of his posts were not often funny, observant or just plain interesting, I would have stopped reading his blogs ages ago, because his attitude to this really pisses me off.”

    Exactly.

  13. Ed Says:

Again: what does bitching about spoilers have to do with mourning the passing of Dave’s Long Box?

  14. Ed Says:

I’m still sick of the way spoiler-phobes will totally take over comments & message board threads time and time again. Sure, there was a spoiler in this post, but, it’s not *about* spoilers.
I only care about the fact that a great blog is closing, I couldn’t care less about who out there is upset about being spoiled over whatever.

  15. Midnight Says:

Well, Ed, that is EXACTLY the point. Why does a post mourning the passing of Dave’s Long Box contain a spoiler AT ALL?

PMasta explained it, and I’ve nothing to add. If you don’t want to get it and are intent on bitching and name-calling - enjoy.

  16. Ed Says:

Well, no it didn’t *need* to be there, but the fact remains that the passing of Dave’s Long Box is MORE IMPORTANT than your silly little spoiler problem, and you had to make it about that in the first comment.
You couldn’t have at least mentioned DLB’s demise and how you felt about it?
Name calling, I’ll plead guilty, but as far as bitching goes, you set the tone with the first post.

  17. Ed Says:

Oops, it was PMasta who made that first post, and who set the tone, but nevertheless, you cited his post as having said it all for you, so I don’t feel particularly remorseful, just embarrassed by the error.

  18. PMasta Says:

“I only care about the fact that a great blog is closing, I couldn’t care less about who out there is upset about being spoiled over whatever. ”

It’s a good thing that no one was talking to you, then. My original comment certainly was not addressed to you.
