Toon Zone attended the New York Comic Con’s Black Panel on Friday, where additional details on BET’s Black Panther animated series were revealed:
The biggest news for BET was about the newly announced prime-time Black Panther animated series, which was the first question from the audience after Davis opened it up to questions from the audience. The new show will be based on the first story arc, “Who is the Black Panther?”, from the Marvel Comics series written by BET vice president Reginald Hudlin. Cowan reported that Hudlin will be writing the animated series, and that the series will be using many of artist John Romita Jr’s designs and aspire to look a lot like the original comics. The eight-episode series is currently scheduled to debut in October 2008. Cowan stated that there were no voice casting announcements he could make yet, but that they were talking to “some stars you might know.”

So the cartoon is only eight episodes long?

Sounds like it. Afro Samurai was only, what, 5 episodes, so…
I was wondering what they were going to do with it, and a focus on “Who Is The Black Panther” makes sense. It’s a stand-alone story for the most part, they don’t have to worry about how they were gong to tie in other Marvel characters. So it works.
And if nothing else it’ll make a nice companion to the first trade.

Yeah, the problem is that everything BET touches turns to shit. Don’t worry, I’m black to I am allowed to express that publicly without being labeled racist.

The only thing from BET that I have seen is Boondocks, so I dunno’, could be bad, could be decent.
I’ll give the first ep a chance tho, because I’m the biggest Wakanda-wigga this side of the USSR.

Monkey Attack – Considering that Aaron McGruder has turned “BET is shit” into a prominent running joke on The Boondocks, I think we’re well past the point of anyone thinking that not liking BET makes you racist. BET is for black people what MTV is for white people, and considering that MTV is so stupid that Beavis & Butt-head would actually be too intellectual to fit in its lineup anymore, that’s saying a lot.

The only way I would’ve been excited for this is if they were basing it on Priest’s run, which, given that BET’s president is writing BP now, was an impossible dream from the get-go. Pass.

Monkey Attack
you are an idiot with that post.
Safraz
another priest fanboy whining about BP who also didnt buy the book when it was written by priest while bashing hudlin and didnt read it as well under his run while stating “oh he his such a great character”. Nothing new LOL
Kirk Boxleitner, a.k.a. K-Box
Good Point in a way. But Viacom that owns both is garbage to begin with what can one expect

Sure wish Priest was involved and Weggie’s BET was not.

Would be very cool if Priest were involved seems he has been shut out the B.P. development?
