This isn't really a reply. Just a comment i wanted to put somewhere though I doubt it will ever get anywhere that it will affect anything. As far as a JLA movie the uncontested leader of the JLA is Superman. Supermans character has developed in his leadership role as a lead by example, sometimes putting his foot down in a "do it my my" sense. And when the going gets tough he has a habit of running off and trying to do it on his own so that no one else will get hurt. He also shows up just at the right moment to help teammates out of a jam. Its a complicated character to emulate but through more than adequate writing and Tom Wellings potrayal of the character in smallville many of these traits have been shown. I think consideration of anyone other than Tom Welling for the JLA role would be a mistake. But the big guys care more about the money. I still think that christopher reeve was the best superman ever to hit the movies. But for the newer more adaptable superman of today I think Tom Welling has what it takes. And hopefully the next superman wont have to have rubber muscles (superman returns)>

There's absolutely NO WAY IN HELL this movie will get made - while the seperate Superman & Batman franchises are still ongoing and viable - as the studio is unlikely to want to confuse the public with 2 seperate versions of each character appearing in movies at the same time, it just doesn't make sense - less so when it would come out from the same studio. So any potential JLA film could not have Supes or Bats in it - making it less of a "sure thing" for the studio. Also - they don't want to leave "baggage" for potential franchises of more 2nd tier DC characters - such as Flash or Green Lantern - who both have real potential imho. So - any characters left for a possible JLA film - are 3rd tier or possibly worse ( Bw'ana Beast anybody ? ).

I justw anted to let you guys know: "tabled" doesn't quite mean cancelled, it means not now til a later date.

On Justice League: my opinions on it were that I really wanted it to happen, as its purpose was great for it to exist: to be a springboard for future franchises to finally come off the ground. But the story, and how it was coming along, were a different story.

Don't you just hate it when somethign comes up, and you know how to do it correctly, but you are in no position to go to WB and tell them? That was this. I KNOW what to do for a Justice League movie, and the sequels. And who to have as the superheroes. Same goes for Wonder Woman, and maybe even Green Lantern and others. But because I'm just an regular guy like everyone else, no one will listen to me.

Since "tabled" means "later or resting, not dead", it is a good idea that WB is going to give JLA a rest before returning to it later on.

And that Wonder Woman thing is wrong, somewhat: there are writers doing it right now, and they did the positivly reviewed WWII script. And one of the brothers who did the Matrix films and Speed Racer had an idea on opening the movie, and that might signal one or both brothers being the directors of this.

thank god this is tabled. The list of movie actors said to star in this film was disastrous. Let's hope the second time around (whenever that will be), the cast will improve and DC and the film industrie will listen to the audience/fans...

Yes,everyone is right. From what i read this would indeed have been a horrible movie.

A young cast to bring in the coveted 18-49 demographic along with cool CGI effects for everyone.

A simple, fun story that has the good guys fighting a main villain in Maxwell Lord and O.M.A.C. robots.

I mean honestly, how could that ever be good? It`s not like I,ROBOT or TRANSFORMERS made money that way.

Actually, there's supposed to be a Jonah Hex movie and a Preacher HBO tv series in the pipeline, so they are developing some of those properties.

A JLA movie never made any sense to me. I'm not exactly a DCU fan but the Big Three are creative assets that no one else can match, at least in terms of stature and mainstream appeal.

A JLA movie would feature the first big screen pairing of Superman and Batman plus the first appearance of Wonder Woman on the silver screen. With all of that going on, why would your goal be to use your first team movie as a springboard to get people excited about GL and Flash spinoffs? Two minutes of screen time for Martian Manhunter is too much, IMO.

Make the JLA movie part two or three of a the film series but start with Batman-Superman.

Why can't DC get it together on their movies? I think they just stumbled into the right creative team on Batman and have no idea what to do with the rest of them. These properties seem to go back and forth between being rushed forward and being stuck in development hell.

I echo the sentiments posted.

This sounded like it was going to be horrible.

WHY can't WB get their show together ? It's amazing how Marvel has kicked them around the block again and again and again and again.

There are dozens if not hundreds of properties that could not only be done, but done really well and do well.

Challengers of the Unknown. How hard would that be ?

Jonah Hex

Preacher

and known of them with a higher than average budget

it's sad

"On the other hand, Joel Silver… Wow. How does that guy still have a job? If he’s got any say on how a Wonder Woman film should be made it’ll likely either A.) Never get made, or B.) Be a disaster. At least, his own history regarding Superman would suggest that."

Jon Peters is the guy responsible for the mess behind the last Superman movie. Silver had no part in it.

Well... I'm very ambivalent about this news, as I was about the news of the project going forward. (I'm not sure why they couldn't have shot the thing in Canada as opposed to Australia, but whatever.)

Shelved... probably for the best right now. With all the bad karma leading up to this moment, the film likely would have been a disaster if they moved ahead with it. I hope they revisit in a couple of years.

It's too bad. I hope the movie is made eventually. In the meantime, it would be nice to see more of the Direct-To-DVD projects, at longer lengths. That's a market full of potential.

"There’s no good reason why there shouldn’t be a competing Green Lantern space epic, or a Greek-mythology-laden Wonder Woman picture. If Marvel were running DC’s movie production, we’d probably have a Doom Patrol picture by now, and definitely a Teen Titans."

Oh man, can you imagine a Doom Patrol movie? That would be wild! And hey, Grant Morrison writes screenplays too...

I'd love to see a Green Lantern space epic or a mythological Wonder Woman movie. There are so many DC properties that could succeed as films.

The main problem, I think, is getting across concepts in 90-120 minutes that took months or years of sequential storytelling to build. That's why the most successful comic book movies seem to exist in their own worlds, instead of fitting into established genres. When you start from zero with Peter Parker or Bruce Wayne and build up to the costume and villains, the audience is more accepting of wild ideas. So it might be a better idea to do more individual movies first before building to the Justice League.

I'm glad this movie is getting closer and closer to be scrapped every day. But I checked out a video interview with Megan Gale, who was supposed to play Wonder Woman, and I gotta say ... I don't hate it. She was very tall, fit, beautiful, and mid-30's. She wasn't just some early-20-something kid, as it seemed to me the rest of the cast was. She was mature and yet vibrant. Now ... I can't say anything about her acting ability, but at least physically she nailed the part! I wouldn't mind seeing her cast in the now solo Wonder Woman movie.

One of DC/Warner's biggest problems is one of tone. The Spider-Man pictures and Iron Man (even to some extent the grimmer X-Men series) make it clear that the audience is supposed to have fun. DC's recent offerings are far more somber and self-serious--which seems to work for the new take on Batman or a Moore adaptation, but which dragged down the (otherwise partially admirable) Superman Returns. The Iron Man trailers and clips convey a looseness, humor and a sense of the filmmakers and actors at play. That sense is entirely absent from the handful of DC pictures we've gotten--which feel more like filmed tributes to Great Men who've recently died, meant to be played at the wake.

The CHUD thing doesn't look like an interview, though.

There are not quotes, just the guy's assertions.

I presume they're two different interviews at the same press junket: one by CHUD, the other by Sci Fi Wire.

Ah, finally. Honestly I'd rather this budget go to DC's five (or 6-7) next animated features. In the meantime, they should get Wonder Woman, Flash, or Green Lantern out next.

Someone is definitely misquoting Silver.

The SciFi story report says

Silver described the project as being "tabled for a while now," but added that he is still determined to find a way to make it work. "It's sitting there, and when I figure out a way to do it, I'll do it," he said.

That's in reference to the WW movie, not the JLA movie.

I had at least SOME hopes for this because they were going to base it off of a pretty good Greg Rucka story, but yeah...

I suppose it IS probably for the best.

Decisions that could potentially make or lose upwards of a billion dollars are not easy; that said, Marvel really has run rings around DC in the movie arena. At this point it's hard not to conclude that there are fundamental problems with a) the DC properties or, more likely, b) the people in charge of developing them for film.

It's interesting that the basic Marvel/DC dynamic is the same even at a much bigger scale, with the former's relative willingness to take risks, flood the market and service fans swamping the conservatism and inertia of the latter. We're about to get a smash hit Iron Man movie, of all things. There's no good reason why there shouldn't be a competing Green Lantern space epic, or a Greek-mythology-laden Wonder Woman picture. If Marvel were running DC's movie production, we'd probably have a Doom Patrol picture by now, and definitely a Teen Titans.

Warner's culture may make it impossible, but they'd be well served to take a page from Marvel's book (and the success of their own new Batman series) by creating a DC Studios subdivision with a freeer hand to develop pictures. In the time it takes for Warner's to hem, haw, and finally decide not to make a Wonder Woman or Justice League because they can't make it perfect, Marvel shoots five movies, two of which probably don't completely suck--and four of which more than make their money back.
