WDC&S 600 wasn’t actually the first appearance of this item. Don Rosa originally produced it for mainstream European Disney publisher Egmont, who used it in 1993.

Yep. And Mickey and Minnie are related to rats: Minnie’s cousin Ruffhouse, whom you’ll meet several months from now in WDC&S.
The Disney rule seems to be that if animals come from the same biological family, they can freely intermarry even if (in real life) breeding would be impossible.
