After focusing on the violent aspects of The Boys a couple of months back, The Philadelphia Daily News’ Jerome Maida takes a look at the softer, sensual side of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s crazy take on superheroes:
Which reminded Comics Guy that when he reviewed “The Boys” three months ago, I had focused on the (literally) bloody, over-the-top, dark humor and violence.
I barely touched upon the other ingredient that makes “The Boys” unique: The way it presents sexual situations in new and exciting ways for any medium, but especially for a “superhero” comic book.
Here we have had the innocent Starlight made to prove how badly she wanted to join the premier superteam, The Seven; the love/hate relationship between Butcher and Director Susan Rayner; and the same Butcher ordering his dog, Terror, to make sure even a poodle pays a price for being uncivilized.
There has also been a startling scene where we see how teens might really react if they had superpowers: namely, engaging in orgies in which they switch partners at a furious pace.
Feel the love …
