May 7th sees the release of The Amazing Joy Buzzards Volume 1. It’s the Amazing Joy Buzzards director’s edition at 300 pages and in the Sin City Digest format. It’s a focused collection of Amazing Joy Buzzards stories and all continuity with no guest material, all Dan Hipp.
In June I have a really cool Superhero tale out called KILL ALL PARENTS! with Marcelo Dichiara that you’ll enjoy it very much. Mainstream Superhero readers can appreciate this story as well as fans of Independent Comic books and it’s well worth making the journey to your comic book store to check out. I’ll be talking more about this project very soon.
July sees the release of Popgun Volume 2 which Joe Keatinge and I edit. It’s a massive 460 page graphic mixtape of the best and the brightest in comics. It’s really folks throwing their everything into a book and giving you their best and you’ll be very impressed with this new one. I can’t show the cover right now, but I can say that it will be revealed at New York Comic Con, and to give you a clue: the person’s name who did the cover for Volume 2 rhymes with ‘Saul Soap’.
In September Dan Hipp and I have Amazing Joy Buzzards Volume 2 coming out and it’s an all original graphic novel. It’s a much more moodier piece than the first Volume and with the original graphic novel format the pacing and the storytelling are much more different from what you’ve seen before and you’re sure to be impressed with what we have in store for you. Here are a few teaser images:
In November we have the New Brighton Archeological Society, which I teased you with in Popgun One, and now I’m teasing you about teasing you! Smith you tease! This story is great and I’m having the time of my life working on the graphic novel. If you liked the Popgun shorts this book is the full story behind those shorts and a full story from beginning to end.
Here’s an Image for the one project that I can talk about that’s coming out for Spring but this is all you get until we get closer to our release date:
I’ll be back at San Diego Comic Con summer of 2009 making my first US appearance in 3 years.
OH ALSO AQUA LEUNG is kicking butt on Amazon! This weekend it was #2 in Image Books. We’re coming for the number one spot! It will be mine, oh YES, it will be mine!
I leave you with pictures of completely random people reading Aqua Leung and I think you should do the same, a scientist told me that reading Aqua Leung makes you look sexy. He’s a scientist. Who am I to argue with cold hard scientific facts?

Even though I speak with you via email or instant messenger at least five times a week, the sheer amount of work you’re producing continues to blows me away.
By the end of the year people will be walking into comic shops asking for stuff by Mark Smith, and comic shop guys like me will be all “The stuff by Mark Smith is the comic shop!”.
Seriously.
Thats how much stuff you’re producing right now haha

Darn it, I spent the weekend re-reading the Amazing Joy Buzzards and now I find myself wanting to repurchase those same volumes. Darn you!
Also, I am very pleased that Aqua Leung is doing so well on amazon, but when will they actually ship it? I bought my copy there last week and they say they will send me an e-mail when it is available.

Yeah, I’m having the same problem. I just recently bought the two volumes of Amazing Joy Buzzards, then I see this nifty one volume collection with everything that was in those two books, and I want it! However, if all that’s new is the cover (which, admittedly, is very cool) then I can’t justify the expense.
I have Aqua Leung on preorder and will be doing the same with Kill All Parents. Everything else looks great, too, especially that New Brighton Archaological Society.

THAT SMITH IS SO HOT RIGHT NOW!!!
Sluggo (and anyone else with the same concern): The new AJB Volume One WILL have new pages in it, but on top of that, it was entirely re-lettered and re-designed, so it should read as it’s own graphic novel. It literally IS like the Director’s Cut, with some new stuff, but also re-cut a bit so it should read much more smoothly, setting up the new volume 2 (out this fall), while keeping a more consistent look.
BUT, all that said, I absolutely understand the concern.

Jason, I heard it’s about two weeks for Amazon to ship for Aqua Leung right now.
