Hats off to Pheobe Glockener, who was one of seven scholars, authors, artists and teachers to be awarded a 2008 Guggenheim Fellowship. According to the previous link, the Diary of a Teenage Girl author and cartoonist won primarily for “a graphic narrative about a Mexican girl murdered at the turn of this century in Ciudad Juarez, a major U.S.-Mexico border crossing adjacent to El Paso, Texas.” She plans to use the award money to continue work on the project:
“The fellowship will allow me to immerse myself in the final stages of this process, which will require several more trips to Juarez and long periods of focused work,” she says. “I’m so very happy and grateful to have received a Guggenheim Fellowship, and acknowledge that it wouldn’t have been possible without the support of family, friends and colleagues.”

I have no thoughts or opinions on this story… At first I thought the Guggenhiem fellowship referred to Marc. I thought, “Poor thing… I hope she doesn’t get roped into writing for Eli Stone.” Anyway, this is the first I’d heard of her project and it sounds good. I may have to check it out.
Mostly I just wanted to comment that Ms. Gloeckner looks like the woman in the Hitchhiker’s Guide movie… Zooey Deschanel or something? In other words, she’s awfully cute.
Hubba hubba!
