I’m pretty sure it’s been mentioned somewhere that Jarvis is the name of the AI that runs Tony Stark’s computer system.

I suspect Dave’s right. Personally, I’m cool with that – OF COURSE Tony would have an AI butler, and the filmmakers might have been (rightly) concerned that a butler for Stark would have been too reminiscent of Batman.
