CHILD’S PLAY: THE CARTOON ART OF STAN AND JAN BERENSTAIN, text by Mike Berenstain, forward by Jan Berenstain, has just been published by Abrams. It surveys Stan and Jan’s magazine cartoons during the baby boom years of 1946-1964, featuring all their full color Collier’s covers and selections from their McCall’s series, newspaper comics and cartoon books. I am the author as well as Stan and Jan’s son and collaborato.

Hello Mike
I loved your parent’s cartoons and also the bear series which my children loved and which i’m now buying for my grandchildren.
One cartoon I remember with great affection was of a couple playing tennis. He delivers a devastating smash and she, like a good sport rushes to the net as if to congratulate him except that she starts strangling him.
It was so beautifully observed I’ve always wondered did your parents play against each other?
Best wishes
Ivan
