Many years ago this senior Matinee Movie Fan sat in theTheatre seat on Saturday afternoon and saw the first Lone Ranger Movie. In regard to the possibility of sometime seeing a new Lone Ranger movie in light of the recent "Zorro" productions doing so well, the responses are welcomed to an old senior. It could be done if a writer had the know how. Many think it is true, if Disney has bought the rights to The Lone Ranger and intends to have a film for 2010. The thing is will they stick to the strict contract set down by The Lone Ranger Code and produce one of the finest films ever seen on the character, hoping to start a new film series. Johnny Depp is mentioned as "Tonto" and the "Ranger Role" is you know who!. It will be interesting to see this if they do it seriously, correct, and keep out the stuff they think is funny and usually overdone as in the Zorro movies and particularly the second one. I hope to and will try to be still around when it hits theatres if this really comes true. Many thanks for your time to read my take. This site seems to have it all together. It keeps that 13-15 year old boy hidden inside of you still active .

They probably already are. It would be sad if the movie was anything like the comic. Al that could possibly mean is that they took the idea of the comics without paying the comic book people for the rights to use the same ideas.

"They should make Tonto into a woman."

That's got to be one of the dumbest ideas I've ever heard. You wouldn't happen to be a writer for WWE would you? Cause with craptastic ideas like that you'd fit in perfectly with their creative team.

Anyone here remember the movie The Legend of The Lone Ranger? I do very well and I still count it among my top 10 "hero" movies of all time. Yes, it was slow, yes it was somewhat boring, but I personally feel that it did an outstanding job with telling the origin of The Lone Ranger. Had Hollywood made a 2nd one, it could have taken on a more of an action tone, but alas...that did not come to pass. Anyway, Bruckheimer is GOLD and he'll do the Lone Ranger justice! I'm waiting to see how he incorporates that Bruckheimer "spin" around the hero, as he did with Smith/Lawrence (Bad Boys), Nicholas Cage (in The Rock) and Cage/Travolta (FaceOff). I always thought (and still think) Bruckheimer should do a superhero movie, but if this is as close as he'll get to doing one, I'm cool with him producing a movie of The Lone Ranger. Can't wait to see it.

Maybe Marvel Films will wake up and do a Marvel Western film too (RAWHIDE KID, KID COLT, TWO GUN KID, OUTLAW KID, GHOST RIDER... some cool Blaze Of Glory/Apache Skies all mixed into one)

P.S. also the 2003 back-door FOX pilot was a hundred times suckier than the early 80's film.

Sounds interesting, the Dynamites series is a little too dark and would frighten people off. But a version thats a little old,a little new would work.
The Lone Rangers got a reputation as being squeaky clean.
But the original pulp novels and radio shows were different from the old T.V. show.
More action and violence, that would translate well in todays environment.
Hope and pray for the best citizen.

Elliot & Rossio has done it again! If they did a good reimagining of ZORRO, I have no doubt that they could do the same with THE LONE RANGER. With tight production by Jerry Bruckheimer it will be a hit. I would also consider bringing Brett Matthews on board as co-writer as well, since it was he who did reimagine the classic character.

If Disney wants a "loser" Lone Ranger movie, they should use the Dynamite version. If Disney wants a "winner" Lone Ranger movie, then they need to make it a Clayton Moore type of movie.

If Sam Eliot isn't cast in this film I may have to boycott it just on principle. He'd be great as the Ranger's father or mentor.

And if this was with any company but Disney I'd be worried it would get the classic Bruckheimer treatment. But Disney, love 'em or hate 'em, know how to respect a franchise even if they do exploit the hell out of it. I have faith it will be good.

I would venture to say that Clayton himself would take offense at wishing someone would "burn in hell" for stopping him from wearing the mask.

"This is bound to be better than that 80’s sucky movie. i remember they made Clayton Moore stop wearing the mask when he did appearances, and he died shortly afterwards. I hope those guys burn in hell for that."

I just want to point out that Clayton Moore actually lived for a long time after that. That was in 1980-81, and he passed away in 1999.

I can't wait for a new Lone Ranger movie. Hopefully they can find a nice mesh of Clayton Moore-era and Dynamite-style Lone Ranger to keep fans new and old interested in the project.

I love the blend of heroism and realism in the current Lone Ranger comic series, and if they go with something like that, I think this could be great.

I'm looking forward to this one. Hopefully they won't flood it with outlandish CG effects.

Rossio and Elliott also wrote the first Banderas Zorro film, which I found to be much fun, if not in the same league as Pirates. If Bruckheimer lets them tell a good story, and gets the right director and cast, it could be good. If he gets someone like Michael Bay, though, it will be just more summer eye candy.

This is bound to be better than that 80's sucky movie. i remember they made Clayton Moore stop wearing the mask when he did appearances, and he died shortly afterwards. I hope those guys burn in hell for that.
