This article from the Sydney Morning Herald follows up on one Kevin linked to a few weeks back, about how much of a tax break the film would receive for filming in Australia. Apparently Australia refused to give the film the larger rebate they give Australian films because it’s too American; Warner Bros. was hoping they’d get it based on the fact that director George Miller is Australian.
But never mind all that; the news that’s probably of more interest to those reading this is that the article refers to the film by what I’m assuming is the title: Justice League Mortal. Justice League Mortal? That makes me wonder if Blockbuster’s post about the League dealing with the death of Superman is true …

Shades of the early Justice League appearances if the Blockbuster site is right. Also a clever dodge of the Bale/Routh casting issues.
Might hurt the marketing effort though…

The other rumors regarding the title are that the movie opens up with the funeral of Barry Allen.

Oh lovely… Do Superman’s “death” — completely confusing mainstream audiences — while trying to salvage the Singer/Routh Supes franchise at the same time? Really, who are these geniuses over at WB?
Note to anyone at WB who might happen to read this. That was SARCASM.
Honestly, as much as I hate the idea of this movie, I might be more receptive to at least giving it a shot if they just form the JLA without involving or mentioning Batman and Superman in any way whatsoever. I realize they’re the two biggest guns in the DCU. But it simply makes no sense to include them in this project, played by different actors than in their own existing franchises.
A good movie featuring other A and B-list characters should still do well if the script, actors and production is good. If they can’t come up with a good enough story involving WW, GL, Flash, Martian Manhunter, etc. then this movie probably shouldn’t be made in the first place.

I’d heard a lot about Barry Allen’s death too, which then lead to Wally picking up the mantle as an entrance level character to the JLA, which kind of makes sense.
There was also a big thing about the JL movie cribbing elements of Tower of Babel and ending up with a three way battle between the big three a while back.
This death of Superman stuff seems a little bit wrong to me.

“Justice League Mortal”?
I hope that’s another one of those weird titles like AMERICAN HEROES that gets bandied about briefly but never used.
