In news that should surprise no one, the Sci Fi Channel has announced it will develop a TV series based on The Stranded, a title it created with Virgin Comics.
The comic, written by Mike Carey, is the first product of a multimedia partnership between the two companies announced in July at Comic-Con International.
The fantasy-adventure centers on “five ordinary people living on Earth who, it turns out, are actually from a world called Standfire. Their past has returned — not to haunt them, but to kill them.”

This looks like some corporate synergy that only the corporations are waiting to have happen … the Virgin Comics spinner rack in NYC is next to the bathroom, chock full, and I’ve not seen anyone reading any of that stuff… I suppose Richard Branson can burn a few million dollars on the off chance one of these TV projects takes off tho’. Tekno Comics anyone? (Virgin’s Indian stuff looks a lot more interesting, and certainly fills a niche better than the sci-fi synergy stuff does.)

I am really happy for Mike. I am looking forward to seeing this on SCI FI.
P.S. Part 1 of my interview with Mike is now available:
