It’s official: Legion cartoon ends next month

March 18th, 2008
Author Kevin Melrose

The latest press release from Warner Bros. Animation confirms what many have believed for a while: The CW’s Legion of Super Heroes will end with this, its second season.

The writing had been on the wall since October, when it was announced the 13-year-old Kids’ WB! franchise was going the way of the dodo. (The CW will outsource its Saturday-morning program to 4Kids.)

The Batman bowed out on March 8, which leaves as the only question the fate of the newly debuted Spectacular Spider-Man.

Legion of Super Heroes will conclude with a two-part episode, set to air on March 29 and April 5.

  1. Shaun Says:

My condolences to Legion fans… That sure didn’t last long.

Now can we get some word as to when (if ever) Nick’s going to start running new episodes of Avatar again? They’ve been showing new ones in Canada for awhile now, but not in the States.

Also, can we get word as to whether or not Avatar’s really ending with season three? That’s the rumor I’ve read. Major bummer, if true. I always thought the show would go at least four seasons, one season for each of the four nations (Water, Earth, Fire and Air).

  2. Chris Shields Says:

That blows. This was a great show

  3. Myron Says:

I wonder what happens to Shaggy and Scooby-Doo Get a Clue, which aired it’s season finale this week, and Tom and Jerry Tales?

  4. Erech Says:

    Boo.

  5. Rob S. Says:

Nuts. I would’ve liked to see more.

  6. john Says:

That’s too bad, it’s a fun show. Visually, the show looked better than the DC Direct-to-DVD “movies”…

  7. Matthew E Says:

Ah, well. We knew it wasn’t going to last forever.

I predict we haven’t seen the last of the Legion in animation. I mean, even after these last three episodes.

  8. Greg Geren Says:

I hope they can tie off the dangling plot threads (Imperiex, Nemesis Kid, Ferro Lad) in a satisfying manner. I can only see a way to pull off 2 of those 3 in the three remaining episodes, but they may surprise me.

My daughter and I will miss this series, but I’m sure we’ll be watching the recorded copies over and over.

Hopefully we’ll see another animated incarnation of the Legion later.

  9. Seriously Says:

    Greg:
Imperiex and Nemesis I get, but I’m not sure what dangling plot threads you mean regarding Ferro Lad. His story ended with his, uh, death. What’s left of that story to tell?

  10. Matthew E Says:

Well, at the end of the last episode of Season 1, we saw what looked like Ferro Lad’s corpse lying on an asteroid. A scene like that often implies that the guy has survived or is going to come back to life or something. In this case, one of the writers has said about that scene, “no, he’s dead all right,” or something to that effect, so I don’t regard it as a dangling thread either. But it’s natural to think so.

  11. Rich Says:

Ah, this was a fun show. Also sad to see it end although I haven’t watched in a couple months.

This show ending so soon is about as big as bummers come.. I mean, as far as cartoons go.
I just really hope they finish putting the seasons out on DVD.
