from The Dark Knight

Both Variety and the Hollywood Reporter have reports from the Warner Bros. presentation at ShoWest, the big movie convention going on in Vegas where studios present their upcoming films to theater owners. Some of the highlights include:

–George Lucas was on hand to pitch the upcoming Clone Wars animated film, which comes out in August. “I think it can live up to the live-action movies,” Lucas said before rolling a clip of Clone Wars. Anyone who disagreed was dragged outside and beaten by the six stormtroopers who flanked him.
–Christopher Nolan showed a sequence from The Dark Knight that introduced the audience to Heath Ledger as the Joker. “It’s a great performance. … I’m very proud to have been able to work with him,” Nolan said.
–Joel Silver said Speed Racer would be rated PG because the Wachowskis wanted to make a movie their nephews and nieces could see.

Smith’s kids cast in Kibuishi’s Amulet
Willow and Jaden Smith, the daughter and son of action hero/Fresh Prince Will Smith, have been cast in the upcoming movie adaptation of Kazu Kibuishi’s Amulet graphic novel series.

Quick hits:
Make your own Smallville comic.
Dentmobiles?
–Corey Feldman talks about the direct-to-DVD Lost Boys sequel.
–It sounds like the Terminator TV series, which I figured was a goner, may get a second season.
–Why did it take so long to get an Aliens video game?

Why did you figure the Terminator series was a goner?

  2. James Van Hise Says:

The Terminator pushed Fox to a big ratings hit in February. I would have been surprised if it didn’t return.

Speed Racer looks ridiculous but it may well appeal to the same crowd which made Transformers a hit and I fell asleep during that film.

  3. JK Parkin Says:

Well, besides the first episode, the ratings weren’t stellar, but mostly I figured that because I was enjoying it, it would probably be canceled. Also, FOX doesn’t have a great track record of giving shows like this a chance to grow their audiences … see Firefly and Drive.

“Aliens vs Predator” (the PC game) from about 7 or 8 years ago was one of my favourite video games. “AvP 2″, the sequel PC game, wasn’t as good but was still entertaining. And I know of at least one PS2 “Aliens” game, because I own it (didn’t play it all the way through, though, as it had some annoying glitches in it). So that’s a minimum of 3 “Aliens”-based video games that’ve been around for years.

Having said that, I agree with the sentiment that we don’t get enough good “Aliens” games, nor often enough!

  5. Nat Gertler Says:

If you go to the Wikipedia entry for the Aliens arcade game and go down to the bottom to the general Aliens links, they list a lot of Aliens games. (It should be noted that Aliens vs. Predator came to games well before it came to film; the games were inspired by the Dark Horse comics crossovers.)

  6. JK Parkin Says:

Hey Kimota, how is the PS2 Aliens game? I probably should have been a bit clearer when I said Aliens game … I was thinking specifically of the second movie, a la a space-marines-going-head-to-head-with-a-bunch-of-aliens, acid-squirting, Paxton-and-Kyle-Reese-cursing, “Nuke’em from orbit … it’s the only way to be sure” rompin’ good time. Something like Battlefront meeting Resident Evil in the Aliens-verse.

IF the PS2 one had that vibe, I might check it out. The one at the link certainly looks like they’re going for that feel.
