Britney Spears … super hero?

Reuters reports that the pop diva/paparazzi bait’s video for “Break the Ice,” which debuts on a dedicated website next Wednesday, features the singer as “an animated superhero in a futuristic world.” Per Reuters:

The release of the video, along with an upcoming acting role on U.S. television comedy “How I Met Your Mother,” marks something of a comeback for Spears, 26, whose career has been sidelined by psychiatric problems and months of bitter child custody battles.

Spears’ Jive record company said the video was made in South Korea in Japanese anime style. Spears last year released two singles from the “Blackout” album which has sold more than 2 million copies worldwide but whose commercial success pales in comparison to the singer’s heyday six years ago.

  1. First she guest stars on my favorite show (How I Met Your Mother) and now she wants to be a superhero? Back off my life, Britney! Gimme gimme less!

  4. guess she’d have to be animated in the next video…record company wants to push forward and make money, but her cooperation is pry lacking.

  5. Going the animation route is probably cheaper than paying the talent and crew for a couple of full-day shoots when the star is a no-show. Sad.

  6. Man, now I will watch her video. How about we animate good singers. I love how here in the good ole USA we will gladly make a dime off of any half wit or nut job. Then again I need to remind myself who is still in office.

  7. The way Britney looks these days (like trailer trash), maybe showing her in animated form is the only way for her to be attractive again?

  8. “something of a comeback?” … I for one wish Britney would just fade into obscurity… I seriously try to avoid all the hollywood b.u.ll.s.h.i.t. … but when CNN even plays this crap, what is a guys supposed to do?

Go away, Britney… not even a diehard fan of anime and comics will watch this.

  10. In the very beginning I was such a huge fan of Britney Spears. Her look, the way she sang, everything about her was just so cool. The marriage to K-Fed, the divorce and custody battles really painted a bad image for Britney, but there’s always been talks about a hopeful comeback, there are still people that trust and have a great deal of faith and fanship for her, so whether you like her or not, don’t discredit her for wanting to change for this comeback. People deserve second chances and perhaps this is Britney’s second chance.

  11. “I love how here in the good ole USA we will gladly make a dime off of any half wit or nut job. ”

To be fair, the US always seems to come off as rather restrained to me whenever I read about how celebrities are obsessed over and marketed in other countries.

  12. I just watched the video. Not really my scene (I don’t like pop music except from the 80s, and I don’t like anime), but not bad, really. It’s a neat enough video, and the song is not bad for it’s type. I liked hearing “Toxic” on that episode of Doctor Who better, but this isn’t bad.

  15. Is Britney still around? Hasn’t she realized yet that she’s a pimple on society’s butt and no longer relevant? I wish she would do us all a favor and just fade off into obscurity.

  18. … Who’s in office has nothing to do with Britney Spears being animated. Fail. I wonder who did the animation, though.

  19. Sorry, but I can only imagine Britney in one kind of Japanese production; SCAT PORN!

  20. Considering the shape she’s in of late, is anyone surprised they decided to replace her with an animated version?
