Beland: Image makes the award season easier.

Tom Beland shares his love for his publisher, Image Comics, on the Bendis Board:

Here’s the thing.

I’ve done some work in 2007 that I was deeply proud of. There are some issues that truly drained my emotions and there was a genuine amount of love in those pages. If I were to win an Eisner for any of them, it would mean the world to me. It just would be.

That said, I glanced at the deadline for Eisner submissions and was horrified to see that the deadline is two days from now.

There’s swearing in the next part, so young eyes! Don’t click on that “more”! Beland continues:

To say I fucking freaked out is an understatement. I emailed Jackie Estrada and asked what I could do to get considered. Could I have an extra day? Then I tried to think of getting those issues from Image to Jackie’s office.
I sent emails to Eric, Erik, Joe and Allen begging for them to ship my books ASAP. I’d even pay the shipping costs.

About a half-hour later, I get an email from Jackie:

“Image sent your book in, so you are fine– Jackie”

They already did it for me.

THAT’S why I’m at Image.

Former publisher AiT/PlanetLar also gets some love:

Ummmm… yeah, AiT did do that too, come to think of it. But those were for trades and this year, it’d be cool to get nominated for those floppies. I’ve got such a love for those floppies (gaydars across the internet go to red, I’m sure). It’s just such a relief that I didn’t have to call them before.

  1. Jennifer de Guzman Says:

Don’t independent publishers send in Eisner submissions as a matter of course? An Eisner nomination is good for publisher and creator, so it’s in everyone’s interest.

  2. tom Beland Says:

Yes, but in the moment where I felt I missed-out on nominating some very personal work, my people came through. It was more a feeling of huge relief.

When you’re worried, logic seems to leave the room. lol.
