The Way of Demo

March 12th, 2008
Author Kevin Melrose

Writer Brian Wood discovers a Buddhist blog that analyzes passages from several issues of Demo, including Issue 11, “Midnight to Six”:

Brad: Hmm… (while seeing an ad – “Bridgefield Technical Institute: When tomorrow comes… will you be ready?”)
Jace: (Looking at ad too) Will I be “ready” to do what, exactly? Repair f*ckin’ air conditioners?
Brad: Ha!

The above also reflects the dilemma and tension between putting in efforts to prepare for a better worldly life, versus preparing for something unexpected, or something greater – spiritually. When tomorrow comes, come what may (for better or worse), in the worldly or spiritual sense, will you be ready for what you really want? What do you really need? If you really want it, are you not getting ready today? Why wait for tomorrow? What you want is unlikely to come by itself anyway – you need to plant the karmic seeds for the fruition of your dreams now, and condition their growth everyday.

The site examines three other issues of Demo, and briefly considers power in Justice, the concept of self in Batman: Bruce Wayne: Murderer, truth in New X-Men: Imperial, culture in Shenzhen: A Travelogue from China, plus a couple of more.
