Writing for his day job at the Patriot-News, Chris Mautner talks to Jeff Smith about RASL:
“I wanted to do a comic about a bad guy. With Bone, the main character was a good guy just trying to survive. But his cousin Phoney Bone was this really rotten, greedy character,” he said. “And he was so much fun to write.
“I just thought ‘What would it be like to do a comic about the rotten character?’ That was kind of the idea behind doing ‘RASL.’”
“I wanted a character who was world-weary and has made a lot of mistakes in his past, and the mistakes are catching up to him.”
I always thought it was “razzle,” but Chris says it is “wrassle.” Let’s call the whole thing off …
