Stuart Immonen reveals what I always suspected … every big-time newspaper room likes to pretend they’re the Daily Planet. In talking about a field trip to the New York Daily News offices back when he worked on Superman, Immonen writes:
For some unexplained reason, some of the Daily News staff put on a little “Superman” play, and in these pictures you can see their casting selections of Perry, Clark, Lois and Jimmy. I was the only one who brought a camera, and (not ever having worked in an office myself) years later, this handful of photos continue to inform my work (now, of course, as the offices of the Daily Bugle), though I still don’t know what it was they were doing exactly.
I’d think that would be one of the benefits of working there, actually … that and getting to yell, “Stop the presses!”
