New Frontier contest No. 2

March 2nd, 2008
Author JK Parkin

Congrats to the winners of our first New Frontier contest — Johnny Zito, Rob Nipe and Laura Gjovaag. As a reminder, winners were chosen at random from all entries. Thanks to everyone who entered and shared their favorite Justice League story; go take a look at the comments section of that thread to see what stories people mentioned.

Yep, that’s right … that was only our first contest. The folks at Warner Video have provided us with a signed and framed cel from Justice League: The New Frontier to give away in a second contest:

To enter, all you have to do is leave a comment on this post telling us who your favorite Justice League member is. Feel free to provide as much or as little detail on why he or she is your favorite.

Also, use your real name and email address so I can contact you if you win. I’ll pick three winners at random after 5 p.m. Pacific Thursday, March 6, so make sure you leave your comment by then.

Special thanks to Jorge for hooking us up!

  1. Rob S. Says:

My favorite Justice League member is the one pictured on the cel — Barry Allen, the Flash! He’s been my favorite for 31 years now, so it’s unlikely I’ll ever change my mind.

  2. Jamie Harrison Says:

Gotta go with the twofer of Blue and Gold here” Blue Beetle and Booster Gold.

  3. Aron Head Says:

My favorite JLAer is Red Tornado. Of course, I’m crazy for robots.

  4. Jay C Says:

I’ll have to go with Batman…from seeing the 60s TV show, to one of my first comics I got, he has be one of my faves.

  5. Jeff P. Says:

Have to go with Batman, the backbone of the League.

  6. Bill Meeks Says:

My favorite Justice League member is Superman because he’s my favorite hero in general.

  7. Joe Williams Says:

    Phantom Stranger

  8. Bill S. Says:

    Batman, cause… he’s Batman.

  9. KDBryan Says:

Wonder Woman and Martian Manhunter tie for second but my favorite JLA’er is always going to be Batman.

  10. Vincent J. Murphy Says:

Signed by who? The anonymous Korean animator that drew it? Anyhow, Martian Manhunter is the greatest.

  11. Peter Johnston Says:

My favorite Justice League character will always be the Flash. See it kinda runs in my family. My Grandpa was a big Jay, my father thinks of Barry as god, and Wally has always been really special to me. So yeah, the Flash mantle passes on in my family just like it does in the comics.

  12. chad! Says:

The Flash straight up. I’m a huge fan of every incarnation of the character.

  13. Laura G Says:

Aquaman. Always Aquaman. He’s the de facto ruler of 2/3 of the world, can go just about anywhere on Earth without needing special gear, is a king, and is generally way cooler than all those lame one-trick pony heroes on land ;)

  14. Jason Fliess Says:

My favorite JL member is, hands down, Kyle Rayner from the Grant Morrison league.

  15. Patrick Gauthier Says:

    Does Tommy Monaghan count?

  16. Callum Says:

Favourite Justice League member would have to be the flash, Wally West. Especially from the Grant Morrison run.

  17. Brett Says:

Green Arrow. The whole Robin Hood thing just appeals to me. In this world he would just get shot, but in the DC universe he is just ace.

  18. Rustin G. Says:

always liked black lightning for some reason.

  19. Aziz Says:

The Question from JLU. Both in the show and the comics, he’s nuts and it’s a unique interpretation on the character.

  20. john lewis Says:

Aquaman simply because that’s what I want to be. King of the seas, ruler of a lost, undersea kingdom, and beating up super-villains. Awesome stuff there.

  21. Jeff Kerman Says:

My favorites have always been Plastic Man, and Red Tornado. But since 52, Ambush Bug beats them both.

  22. Evan B. Says:

Zatanna because talking backwards to cast magic spells is teh awesome.

  23. Jaap! Says:

    flash

  24. Sergio Segovia Says:

Max Lord, he was a really good guy with good intentions until somebody decided otherwise…

  25. Damon B Says:

Martian Manhunter. Who needs more than an alien lifeform that can shapeshift into both a corndog AND a beautiful woman?

  26. Neel Says:

    Flash!

  27. Jason Wheatley Says:

Since he’s a close second only to Spider-Man as my favorite superhero period, I have to vote for Superman. Not to mention the fact that he sets the standard all the other Leaguers aspire to.

  28. Pedro Tejeda Says:

J’onn Jonz is the only member of the Justice League. Any league with out him is not true. Well not really, but the Justice League without Jonn is the Wu without Old Dirty, awesome but just not the same.

  29. Adam Hutchinson Says:

Green Lantern’s my favorite member of the Justice League.

  30. Andy Says:

My favorite JL member is Superman!

  31. Kevin Huxford Says:

Martian Manhunter. Why? Honestly, I was young and it was the fact that this character with a far longer and more impressive list of powers on his SUPER POWERS action figure card could be so unknown to me. I instantly started looking into the character more. That was during a time in a young man’s life when who could beat who in a hypothetical fight meant more than how well they were written.

  32. Kieran Says:

Kyle Rayner, because reading Kyle in Morrison’s run is the closest I’m getting to being on the Justice League

  33. Jason Urbanciz Says:

    Green Lantern

  34. Jeff Wydick Says:

    Definitely Superman.

  35. KentL Says:

Though I’ve followed Batman’s solo titles more, I always loved Green Lantern (Hal Jordan). I was always excited when he showed up on the old SuperFriends show.

  36. Scott King Says:

    Booster Gold

  37. Crooked Says:

The Batman, because it seems like he’s earned it more than anyone else. Otherwise, the Martian Manhunter, because it seems to mean the most to him.

  38. Michael Gendreau Says:

    Green Lantern

  39. Kimberly Fletcher Says:

    Blue Beetle

  40. Brad McKinney Says:

Hard to disagree with the JLU version of the Question – both accessible to newbies and faithful to long-time fans.

  41. Chris Mosby Says:

    Green Lantern!!

  42. Randy Wager Says:

Aquaman hands down. I think it goes back to my Flipper days. I loved the idea of swimming with and talking to the dolphins. Watching Aquaman swim with the dolphins and ride flying fish, made me believe a boy could fl….er swim with the fish. lol.

  43. Dennis Kanenwisher Says:

Kyle Rayner, the Green Lantern who picked up the torch.

  44. Josh Carden Says:

I’ve got a lot of love for Superman.

  45. Ignacio Alcuri Says:

I would say Batman but… Ambush Bug was a member for one issue, in 52. I second the Bug.

  46. Eric Schaefges Says:

J’onn J’onzz. Cool, calm, collected, friendly, fun, and wicked powerful, he’s the one in the Morrison JLA that made me think “this series has potential…” and kept me with it until he left the team (BOO).

  47. David Tosh Says:

Batman, cos hes the baddest looking and acting good guy on the team.

  48. Roger Farinas Says:

Obviously gotta go with Vibe. I mean, no one else in the whole League can ever get near that man’s break dancing ability. Also, he’s from the best incarnation of the League, Justice League: Detroit. I mean, that’s where legends were born. I’m totally serious by the way.

  49. Alberto Serrano Says:

Batman, the least powerful but most dangerous member of the league.

  50. rlsims Says:

I’ve always had a soft spot for Ralph & Sue, as the Elongated Man was the first new member to join after I started buying comics. I thought it was really cool the League was recruiting new members, and Justice League of America 105 was one of my favorite issues back then.

  51. Raymond Neal Says:

Batman. He got me into comics when I was 4 and lured me back in after being away for a few years.

  52. John Says:

    Superman

  53. Tammallamma Says:

I love a lot of them, but I just keep coming back to Batman. Especially in Morrison’s JLA run.

  54. Matt Says:

I love Batman. It’s great that the guy with no powers is the one everyone is scared of.

  55. Bishop Says:

Barry Allen, all the way. Personally he’s the greatest superhero of all time, and this is coming from a lifelong Marvel Zombie.

  56. Paul Salvi Says:

    The correct answer is SUPERMAN.

  57. Joe Bowen Says:

It’s impossible not to love Batman.

  58. Daniel Says:

My favorite justice league member is probably Batman.

  59. Don Jones Says:

Guess this is kinda the way alot of folks think ,but dont say it. Mine is Superman because he is a god among mortals and restrains himself to understand us so he can protect us from without and within. Not to get to mushy ,but he represents what we strive to be in our daily lives or wish to be in our own hearts.

  60. Jose M Says:

AQUAMAN, I guess. I always had a soft spot for the underdogs. And that Neal Adams’ cover with Superman and Aquaman going blind left me scarred forever.

  61. anth0logy Says:

Snapper Carr, the JLA’s forgotten ‘everyman’ (and sometime super-hero).

  62. nicholas Says:

My favorite Justice League member is the Flash; he’s my favorite DC character, actually.

  63. Nick Says:

Answering on behalf of my 5-year old daugher, Hawkgirl.

  64. Hassan Alamdari Says:

The Flash (Barry Allen). He is my favorite DC Character.

  65. Tyler Langlois Says:

Batman is too obvious a choice. For me, it’s Martian Manhunter!

  66. Tim Says:

Gotta go with Batman. The most dangerous man on the planet. Cliche, but I’m a Batman…man..Or something like that.

  67. mac b Says:

You can’t go wrong with batman. and neither can I – mac blake
    mac(at)billanderik(dot)com

  68. ryan oneil Says:

Definitely a Flash fan. I’m a runner and The Flash is the ultimate runner. Wally is my favorite Flash but I really like Barry, too. Jay is great, too.

  69. Travis W. Howard Says:

Batman – anyone who has plans to take down his own teammates, is someone who clearly plans for every contingency.

  70. Brian Says:

Green Lantern – he’s the man with or without his ring.

  71. Laura Miello Says:

    Superman, because he represents hope.

  72. Duncan Says:

My favorite member would have to be Green Lantern.

The most effective member would have to be Batman from either the Giffen/Demattis era or Morrison era. In both era’s the writers gave Batman the brains and strategic vision to deploy the members of the JL to best match their powers/abilities to the challenges of the current mission.

  73. Randy Says:

Oh, Martian Manhunter. Heart and soul of the league…well, until his chin turned Skrully.

  74. J. Hopkins Says:

    Green Arrow

  75. Jerry Whitworth Says:

Batman: a truly appealing character to be born out of tragedy, build up his body, and make himself such a powerful force of good he would stand amongst gods.

  76. Alex Baker Says:

For me, it’d have to be the Flash (Wally West). Not only does the character show that a good, solid marriage can be the bedrock of a lot of plots (a lesson a certain other comic company could learn), but he’s also a great Everyman character – he was a normal kid who got superpowers, and instead of angsting over it, he enjoys every minute.

  77. Santiago Says:

My favorite JLA member is Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), because he is a hero at heart; the ring helps his achieve it in a much bigger scale, but even i he didn’t have the ring he would still be trying to do the right thing…

  78. Richard Says:

Green Lantern hands down. I always wanted the ring that could make your thoughts come to life.

  79. Marc Says:

    Batman

  80. Mark S Says:

Batman, because well, he’s the goddamn batman.

  81. Bill D. Says:

Blue Beetle – no powers, just some know-how and a willingness to go out and do some good. Also, he also showed that a sense of humor in the face of danger was often helpful. Also also, he had one of the better non-Spidey Ditko costumes.

  82. Aaron Poehler Says:

The Barry Allen Flash has always been my favorite JLAer, which is part of why I loved both New Frontier the book and New Frontier the movie so much. Both hit the character spot-on.

  83. Dane Garland Says:

    Superman

  84. Kevin P. Says:

    Hal Jordan GL !

  85. Jamie Tarquini Says:

I’ll have to go with Wonder Woman. I’ve always been a fan of the character, but her comic never really caught on like Superman and Batman have in the modern era. But in the cartoons you can really get a feel for what makes Diana so cool! :)

  86. AE Jabbour Says:

Favorite Leaguer? Well, that’s an easy one. Wonder Woman. She’s remarkably complex, stands for justice and honesty, but will put a beat down on you in a second, if you deserve it. She struggles for Peace, but fights when required.

  87. Keith Purfield Says:

My favorite leaguer is Guy Gardner. He’s just as good as Hal Jordan as far as Green Lanterns go, but he’s a much more entertaining and interesting character.

  88. Stev Isert Says:

BATman. It could ONLY be The Bat. No powers, not an alien, not a government tool… just really, really rich and good at what he does.

  89. Ryan Beasley Says:

Batman. He is vulnerable to everything. Yet no matter what crisis the league faces he is among them at the forefront against it all.
