Uncannily Spoiled: Astonishing X-Men

The Bendis Board discovers the dangers of crossbook continuity:

Next week’s Uncanny X-Men has a huge spoiler in it. I read the advanced copy at my store and holy [expletive deleted for the sensitive ones]. I would avoid it if you don’t want the end of Whedon and Cassaday’s arc ruined.

That spoiler, and discussion of what’s going on, under the jump. After many other BenBo posters ask to be spoiled (My favorite line: “Joss is usually so concerned with spoilers, but this time he has no one but himself to blame” – Cassaday doesn’t bear any responsibility?), poster THWIP reveals all: Kitty Pryde is dead. Potentially.

“How does the book mention it?????? Are there previews or do they flat out tell you???”

“Does it actually say she dies, or that she isn’t there?”

“Colossus is depressed about Kitty dying.”

“technically it says he ‘lost’ her”

“Is she dead or did she stay in space? Which is it?”

So, part of the conclusion of Astonishing X-Men is revealed, but it’s the part that we’d all guessed already. Does that even really count as a spoiler these days?

    Old news.
Everyone already knew this because she missed Messiah Complex and we were told months ago that Whedon’s run occurred before MS and the big changes it brought.

Why do you think she wasnt in the book or hanging with Colossus when the xmen disbanded.

I could’ve sworn she was at the school when the Marauders attacked. Or did MC take place later than I thought?

  3. Kirk Boxleitner, a.k.a. K-Box Says:

See, the question I’m wondering is, why bother?

I mean, Jesus Christ, Joss Whedon brought back Colossus, of all people, so if he honestly thinks that Kitty Pryde’s death is going to stick, then he’s a fucking idiot.

Then again, given the quality of the later seasons of Buffy, and everything after his opening arc on Astonishing X-Men itself, this is sadly not outside the realm of possibility.

  4. Dave Says:

The Marauders attacking the school was part of Blinded by the Light, not Messiah Complex. Not that a timeline of any of it matters, Whedon and Cassaday’s inability to maintain anything remotely resembling a schedule rendered AXM irrelevant from a continuity standpoint anyway.

  5. Lawrence Says:

Whedon brings back Colossus just to kill Kitty? I call shenanigans!

I bet Kitty joins SWORD and stays on Breakworld, with Lockheed, to help its people.

  6. Dave Says:

Man, leaving Kitty on the Breakworld would be even crueler than killing her. At least someone could revive her if she was killed, but nobody is ever going to be dumb enough to want to revisit the breakworld ever again.

I think Lawrence wins the No Prize.
