Dont worry guys The editors will figure it out ya know for their ongoing “events”. They dont need any writers true input as long as everyone follows the dictates its all good for everyone ,but the fans.

I’m a fairly big Batman fan and buy no less than 3 Bat books every month; more if there’s an interesting miniseries on the go. And yet, I’ve never read anything that Batwoman appears in. I read Infinite Crisis, but 52 involved too much crap I didn’t care about. I love Batman and his “family,” but I generally don’t care much for the universe-spanning stories. For all I know, I might love Batwoman, but I won’t find out until they put her in something I’ll actually feel compelled to read.

I just don’t think there’s much interesting about the character. She really doesn’t fill any niche that other members of the bat family don’t already fill. And with Batgirl getting used in ‘Batman and the Outsiders’ they really don’t Batwoman at all.

Lack of interest isn’t just a problem with readers. If none of the writers have any interest in the character, then they’re not going to want to use her.

Thank you for not including the word “homophobia” anywhere in your piece. It’s refreshing to see someone refuse to resort to the same knee-jerk cliches, or assume the worst from DC editorial.

Tom, I loved the blog here. I think it is a fair look at the issue. I’d be very interested in seeing if someone can get Dan Didio or Mike Marts to address this issue in an interview.

I agree that the Bat-books have their own housekeeping issues to work through. That said, though, I’d love to see Morrison or Dini write a Batwoman story.

And yeah, there’s no good shorthand for “shoves down [X's] throat,” is there?

Well, I think a big part of this is that Grant Morrison and Paul Dini both came onto the two major Bat books and knew what they wanted to do and it did not include Batwoman. In contrast Nightwing, Robin and Birds of Prey have all had at least one creative team turnover in the last 18 months. The fact that Birds of Prey and Nightwing are no longer in Gotham is also problematic.

How Rucka’s non-exclusivity affects the possibility of a Batwoman and/or a Question comic with Batwoman in it is unclear.

I think the biggest problem is that there is no real need for another Batman family member right now much less a need for another Bat-related series.

Finally “DC Throat Shoves Lesbian Superhero” just sounds so wrong.
