Superman and Lois

–I like Joëlle Jones’ version of Superman and Lois.

–Jeff Smith’s friends remember their early self-publishing days; check out essays from Rick Veitch (part 1, part 2), Joshua Smeaton, Colleen Doran (part 1, part 2) and Larry Marder (part 1, part 2)

–The Daily Crosshatch has the second part of their interview with Kevin Colden up.

–Borders is opening a “concept store” in Ann Arbor, Michigan. What do they mean by concept store? Per the press release, “The 28,900-square-foot concept store represents a significant enhancement over existing Borders stores inside and out and fulfills the company’s mission to be a headquarters for knowledge and entertainment.” Well, it’s bigger, I guess … but otherwise that statement doesn’t tell me anything.

Anyway, the store will have special areas for Cooking, Travel, Wellness, Graphic Novels and Children’s books. If anyone visits it, drop us a line or post a comment, as I’d like to know what the graphic novel area looks like.

–Gabriel Ba talks about style.

–Michael Clarke Duncan, Chris Klein, Rick Yune and Kristin Kreuk are all in the new Streetfighter movie.

–This X-Wing sled is pretty cool:

…but I bet it would have done better if they’d gone with a Snowspeeder.

I know a guy who works at a Borders. Says they don’t reorder books nor do they take special orders. How does that promote their “…mission to be a headquarters for knowledge and entertainment”? You can only read what THEY think is important.

Your guy is either wrong or that’s just at his store - I’ve done special orders at Borders a number of times. They do seem to slack on re-ordering books that sell through, though if it’s a strong seller they eventually show up again.
