Puts those ASBAR delays in perspective, doesn’t it?

February 20th, 2008

Blogger and retailer Mike Sterling dutifully marks an important date on the comic-book calendar: It’s been two years since the release of Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk #2, by Damon Lindelof and Leinil Fancis Yu.

The third issue of the planned six-issue miniseries, initially solicited for April 2006, still hasn’t been released.

“When the television writers strike occurred,” Sterling writes, “there was a brief moment of wide-eyed optimism, that perhaps the TV writer in question responsible for this series would be able to find the time to script four more issues of Hulk and Wolverine beating the tar out of each other … but I haven’t heard anything about it. Okay, granted, I haven’t really been looking, but I imagine if there was any real news about it, I wouldn’t have been able to avoid it.”

Back in July, Lindelof said he’d turned in all the scripts through Issue 4, and was about to finish Issue 5: “Leinil has been drawing New Avengers for [Brian Michael] Bendis, so as soon as he is done with that, and I think he has one more issue and then he’s done with that, he’s going to finish up Hulk vs. Wolverine.”

Of course, Yu moved from New Avengers to Secret Invasion, so … here’s looking forward to the third annual Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk Day?

Psh. Ultimate Wolverine vs Hulk has nothing on Daredevil: The Target.

  2. Frank L Says:

Every once in a while I come across issue 2 in my box and say “Whoa-did I miss the rest of this series?”

And then I have to go look it up on the Internet to make sure that, no, it still hasn’t come out yet.

This is why i stopped reading Kevin Smith books on any monthly basis (and probably part of the reason he hasn’t been asked to write a monthly in a while).

  3. Dave Says:

    I can wait. And will

  4. Mysterious Stranger Says:

This is the series where Wolvie discovers Hulk in the mountains sitting on a throne of asian prostitutes right? Or something like that? I think I liked the first 2 issues but its been so long I can’t be sure.

And how hard can it be to write 4 more issues of the Hulk and Wolverine beating the crap out of each other? Issue 3 – Wolvie and Hulk fight then realize there’s a bigger bad to fight. Issue 4 – Wolvie and Hulk fight over how to fight the bigger bad. Issue 5 – As they continue to fight over how to fight the bigger bad, Wolvie and Hulk get captured. Issue 6 – Wolvie and Hulk fight their way out of the trap, fight and defeat bigger bad, make nice and go their seperate ways.

And just cuz I’m a nice guy, Marvel, I’m gonna give you this one. Now get Yu to making with the pretty pretty already.

  5. James Van Hise Says:

I could have sworn that a year ago I read that the artist was just finishing issue #3. Guess that was wrong.

  6. Nat Gertler Says:

Not necessarily. They may well have issue 3 done — and would rather hang on to all of the rest until they can put out the remaining run in succession.

  7. The ECoyleomist Says:

Marvel has said they won’t even think of soliciting it until Lindelof finishes his scripts.
