And talking of timeliness, Comic Bloc wonders whatever happened to the Kubert brothers:
“Are they even working? The Countdown Arena covers are the only thing I can think of.”
“Adam’s finishing last son, and I heard he’s been talking to Didio about what he should do next, Andy? No idea, but I hope its friggin awesome!”
“Going? I hope the hell out of DC!!!!!!”
“I would say the only thing they are doing is wasting everyone’s time. They have completely squandered their exclusive contract with their habitual lateness. The worst part is that nothing they have done can even hold a candle to their work at Marvel. DC made the right decision by replacing them on Action and Batman with quality artists like Tony Daniel and Gary Frank that can actually produce work in a timely manner.”
“I just can’t grasp why they ‘seemed’ better with Marvel than DC. Could one set of editors be more lax than the other? When the exclusive was announced I thought it was a huge get by DC but I think it’s hurt them (PR) looking back.”

I would agree that they’ve managed to squander much of fandom’s good will toward their work. Adam’s pathetic performance on Action Comics has been astoundingly unprofessional (with nothing close to an apology or even a PEEP from the guy).
I’m happy to hear that DC may be instituting a tough new policy with their freelancers from here on out. About time.

I got these figures from my buddy David Uzumeri:
Kubert family issue tally since DC exclusive as of the end of 2008:
ADAM: Action Comics #844-846, #851, Annual #11. Pencils and inks.
ANDY: Batman #655-658, #664-666. Pencils.
…
Retired, octogenarian JOE: Sgt. Rock: The Prophecy #1-6, Tor #1-6. Script, pencils, inks, color guides, letters. And two pages of Action Comics Annual #10.
Easy Company wins again.

Action Comics Annual #11, a 64 page book, has been delayed two months from its original solicitation date of 2/13. No Adam Kubert interior pages have been published since Action Comics #851, in July of last year.

I wonder how many people care how Kubert’s “Last Son” storyline actually ends? Speaking for myself (as a Superman fan and regular reader), I couldn’t care less.
“Last Son” should be Kubert’s “Last Job” for DC.

Both Kuberts have done covers for Countdown (to Final Crisis)- Andy the first four issues, and Adam is solicited for the last four. I think they also did a variety of other covers during the time of this deal.
Andy Kubert never had a reputation for lateness at Marvel, and according to Newsarama, he is currently working on a “top secret” Batman project. There were some delays in his earlier Batman schedule, but were those ever attributed to the art?
Adam Kubert has been very late with his work as noted above, and he has always had a reputation for lateness. There was also probably a “perfect storm” of problems back when they did that 3D issue of Action Comics, since it also took longer to produce the effects.
While I don’t like the fact that lateness in comics has been generally accepted more now than in the past, some of this bashing seems pretty personal. Is it because the Kuberts are big names and the deal was so high profile? Anyway, nobody seems to go around asking how many issues of Planetary came out last year.
